I don't feel like making an assload of buckets and/or hauling them in and out of the bottom of the map.  I'd rather just do it the traditional way.  Besides, diamonds rule.

No matter where you are, or what you're doing, be assured there's always a creeper behind you.

It's the middle of the goddamn day.  I'm digging out some dirt for my porch.  All of a sudden... sssssSSSSSSS...  I didn't even turn around in time to see him.

Then two minutes later it happened again in the same spot.  Fuck I hate those guys.  I need to clear out some of these trees, or something.

And now I'm getting herds of spiders in my basement.  Did Notch change the spawning rules again, or did making the walls of my fort one block thicker somehow royally screw me over?
IKR. I think the game can actually spawn them behind you. Yet another reason I wish we had flashlights.

No. Iron, lightstone dust, diamond, like this:

Possible. On my friends SMP server, I had a zombie come out of a completely lit cavern to attack me in the middle of my underground complex. I have no damned clue where it came from.

So, there is no traps yet I take it?

The moment they add some dwarven style traps I will buy this.

I have not even seen gears or other basic mechanical items in any of the gameplay vids, anyone know if this will be a future feature?

You can make pressureplates and buttons and levers trigger tnt blocks.

The only lava trap uses a glitch, and it's a one-shot deal.

Maybe i vanilla, but im sure some of the server mods allow for more creative traps? I guess most of them would require you to either be at the switch, or trick your itruder into pushing a button or something, but still... :P

Traps using channels and flowing water work well. I also made one trap that consisted of using myself as bait and luring mobs into cacti. Passive traps are pretty common. Triggered traps are pretty much restricted to TNT unless you use a mod.

I made this trap a while ago, rushed to the forums to tell people about it, only to discover it was a well known trap.  :(

But yeah, re armable TNT trap that doesn't destroy any blocks. Never bothered trying to make it concealable.

I have a couple bloodstone blocks out in my backyard.

They burn indefinately, and mobs have no instinct to avoid fire.
