Notch's latest blog update implies that minecarts and minetracks aren't currently horribly broken, and will be broken even less so tomorrow.

For anyone that doesn't know, Vattic just mentioned a program that you can use to plan out your constructions out of game:
you might want to have a look at Cube Kingdom. It's free and works a little like a 3D paint, placing blocks instead of pixels, you can use simple colours or even textures. I've used it in the past and still do once in a while.

I even assembled a custom texture pack for it.

The site and menus are in Japanese, but there isn't much that can't be figured out by just trying things. To use his texture pack, save the picture, then in Cube Kingdom hit the button down by the texture palette, hit yes, and pick his. Left click does stuff, right click and hold rotates the camera, middle mouse (clicking the mouse wheel) pans the camera. Not sure if there are keyboard shortcuts for the camera controls.

The moment the lever was pulled, somebody's pet kitten stepped onto the bridge. I read somewhere that if a cat falls more than 11 stories, it instinctively flares its legs out to increase air resistance. This slows it down enough to stick the landing with relatively minor injuries. In Dwarf Fortress, apparently, cats don't do that.

That would be useful for DF as well...

Notch apparently had some code in place to make the splash screen read "Happy birthday, ez!" today.  Neat.  And cute.

No, it wasn't.
It was distinctly not in the file.
I directly copied the entire listing that it reads from in one of my previous posts here.

"Notch <3 ez!" was, however.

Fiance.
And yeah, she's really nice and helps out a lot on the forums. Happy birthday to her.

Quote from: Notchblog
I was going to release this today, but it’s 6 pm already and my fiancée turns 30 today (I love you, ez!), so I’ll go eat a nice dinner instead.
Suck on that fuckers who are whining that Notch is terrible because he didn't make SMP work completely and totally a few months ago when it was leaked.

Should I read much into the fact that he calls her ez?

Because there is no possibility that she could have other reasons completely unrelated to that interpretation for having that name?

Besides, I don't think Notch is a native English speaker. I doubt his GF is either. So they probably didn't think of that correlation.

Indeed. He isn't a native English speaker, as one can hear from the myriad of interviews and videos out there, so it probs didn't occur to him.
