A moments silence for the uncountable number of cows, pigs, sheep and chickens killed in the burning trunk forest thingo after my forest fire. Made for easy resource collection though.

Epic resource collection method is epic. "I burn down forests for feathers and porkchops." t-shirts incoming.

I wonder if we could come up with some set of rules or play style for a SMP server that adds some sort of meta game to minecraft instead of the usual freebuilding. I know the game is so incomplete at this point, but I bet monsters and general unsafeness are coming soon.

We have tools like the iconomy plugin that allow us to buy and sell and auction, but that doesnt actually provide us much reason to build except for the creativity. However, a good tool to have.

What kind of games could we think of? What kind of goals could we set? How can players make money for the shop? Why build anything excpet for fun? Why limit wastefulness of blocks?

Some ideas, and these is just a sketchy ideas so please if anyone has any other dieas lets throw them out here.

One idea is to set some sort of goal, a megaproject of sorts. This would be a cooperative server and money would be the reward for completing facets of the megaproject. Then with their money players could build other things in the world. Of course you could just mine your own blocks but it is much easier to buy them. The shop would be unlimited.

Another idea would involve at least two teams in a non-violent race to build their own megaproject. Again rewards given for completing facets of the megaproject. The shop could be unlimited or set to regen resources at certain rates. This might then require some teams to mine to get ahead.

A final idea I have would involve the upcoming updates to SMP that Notch talks about multiple server being able to portal into each other, bringing your inventory with you. This would be amazing for competitive and violent war-like gameplay. Split into 2 teams, each based on their own server. You can only build on your own server. Shops are limited and the economy might be a bit scarce, but functional. You build you defenses, and plan your attack. WAR!

Lets post ideas if you got em, I dont think we need another thread for this stuff unless we get an avalanche of ideas. SMP still isnt fully ready for a lot of stuff, but someday it will be. We already have enough minecraft servers running for our community, but if the need ever arose I could set some up.

So the official name of the ever flaming stuff from the nether is Netherstone, and the mud stuff is called Slow Sand.

Friend was over while I was out. Let him mess around on my Minecraft account. When I got back, this is what I found.

The game is afoot.

Lucky for me my friend likes G-mod more than minecraft. Was that on multiplayer?

Nope. He did it to my single-player map. I can't find them either. ._.

have you looked behind that wall with the message on it?

That [Magma] is a bit deep down there, don't you think?
You really aren't thinking like a dwarf.

If you think it is down too far, you move it up until it reaches an acceptable elevation.

He left a message on my phone that said that there was a new unofficial Minecraft Update on my maps. I assume this is what he meant.

Also, they're not behind the wall, in the tunnels, or anywhere obvious in my mine. He might have carted them off to Hell. o.o

Seeing how he has cobblestone and coal left in your inventory when you came back I assume he hid it behind a natural looking wall.

I mean, you could cheat and map out the location of all chests using the mapping utilities.

That's no fun though... the joy is in the hunt!

Uploading that map right now. Should be up any second.

EDIT: Here it is. I've got nothing more than what you guys know to go off of either. I've poked around a bit with the pick, but it was already used.

My original idea was to take the chests and geocache them, but Soli's roommate had to leave and there wasn't anything valuable in those chests anyways.
