From what we've seen the Zombie Pigmen do with them, it's a real shame we can't have Brittle Gold Swords.

It seems doubtful. You don't just walk through the portal, that only brings you to the other side of it without changing realms. You have to sit in the Nethergate for a couple of seconds as your perception of the world is quickly distorted and it takes you to the Nether/Overworld.

My portal deactivated itself while being bombarded by those ghasts and now I am trapped in hell without tools, blocks or armor.
I need to search all of hell to find a new portal if another has been formed.

Well, for one thing you'll get a download when you load it up. The version number should be "Minecraft Alpha 1.2.01". You could build an obsidian arch and set it on fire to see if it makes a portal to Nether if you are still uncertain.

Yeah, the explosions from their fireballs destroy the portal blocks, just not the obsidian frame. You can try standing in/next to it, and jumping out of the way of the fireballs, since if they hit right they'll set the obsidian on fire and start the portal up again.


Brittle gold will probably have more uses later, probably lanterns, maybe tools too.

After wandering through hell I lost sight of my portal and slowly trying to dig upwards only resulted in hitting bedrock

New sport: ghast fishing!

Fishing lines will pull ghasts extremely effectively! Can you become a master ghast angler?

Edit: Hellz yeah, I got one! Brought into melee range with the fishing rod, then hit to death with my iron sword before it could get away.  8)

I refuse to believe that this is a ligitimate strategy. Say, seeing as Ghasts are incorpreal, do they do contact damage? If they don't, do they phase through the player as well?
