That was the most epic cart ride I have ever seen...  So the wiki says this isn't a free game, but there's no subscription fee, right?  Is it worth the money?  (Please keep in mind my monthly "luxury" budget is in the area of about US$25, and that includes beer, so I have to be very careful about spending money on a game.)

Definitely worthwhile. And, once you have Alpha, you can always play offline in single-player mode. Which has features you can't currently get in multiplayer mode, anyway, so it's fun on its own. I'd say, past the initial download and occasional update, internet speed shouldn't be a factor in whether or not you get the game.

For anyone that is still using McAdmin you might want to reconsider it. The developers have backdoors that let them go onto your server and do whatever they want. They have already been caught trolling and banning someone from their own server. They also have the ability to run any unauthorized code they want. They could if they wanted steal stuff from your computer or upload a trojan.

There has been some modchatter about this. I think we are going to lock his threads, but that was more of something the Minecraft General section moderaters are handling. I should really check up on it.

Wow, found the code to be a super admin. Now I can join any McAdmin servers and ban whoever I want without repercussions. /facepalm

Edit-Supposedly, he's taking out the backdoor, but not much trust left in that guy. Good thing I use Zicore's anyways.

Hmm... I just realized a problem with gates... making one opens an identical gate in the other dimension, right? Well, you build a gate in the normal world, go to HFS, build a second gate very close, then tear down BOTH gates to double your obsidian. Yes, this will take some time, but there's no tinkering with dangerous lava... so long as you can avoid the wraiths.

Then there's the other problem. Since gates are also wraith spawns, someone could go to HFS, find the hell-side of any location they want to grief, and build a new portal, which will most likely appear on the surface.

Could be bad if you're just building along in peace when all of a sudden, a gate pops out of nowhere and starts spewing wraiths. Or ghouls. Or G'oulds or whatever they are.

I still think that, as far as problems go, these are awesome ones to have.

Well, now that we know the true size of the Ghasts I'm utterly terrified. I bet they hunt the Zombie Pigmen for fun, or somthing.  I really can't believe Notch may have made a mob even worse than the horror that is Creepers. That said, I'm going to be filling my portal room with dynamite now.

That would be no use. You can't blow up obsidian, so the portal room would need to be made of obsidian unless you want Ghasts sometimes spawning there.

I was considering putting a hellgate below my library.

Now I'm most definitely not.

Thus is the brilliance of my plan. I will fill a chamber above the portal room with magma, so that when a ghast inevitably spawns and destroys half the mountain with my dynamite stockpile, the whole area will be flooded in molten goodness.

I'm pretty sure bookcases burn.
Yes they do.

You see, a good security system would be to have the portal, or hell-gate, built in a heavily fortified, deep underground chamber, with tubes on the top for dropping activated TNT down. You definitely don't want your TNT to be exposed.

Ideally, you could activate the TNT remotely, from a button in the gate room (as well as any observation rooms adjacent to that), so that in the case of a swarm attack, the entire stock of TNT could be fired. Of course, you'd also want to have some way of rapidly casting a protective barrier around the gate, possibly a wall of sand or gravel that can be dropped down so close to gate that no threat, could fully appear in the space between the portal surface and the barrier, effectively "splatting" the incoming attackers.
