The people behind the attack are morons.
They want more updates, so they attack the server, causing him to take time away from coding updates to take care of it, and it is the server that he distributes those updates with.
Idiots.  Morons.  Imbeciles.  Whatever you want to call them, this is quite probably the dumbest thing I've ever seen somebody do with a DDoS-bot network.

And believe me, I've seen a lot of DDoS attacks in my day.

The game is specifically set up to allow such acts of villainy and to block people for acting upon the game's design choices for whatever reason is kind of odd.

If anything this means the creator should be putting in better measures of which players can protect their assets.

Then again I have little-no idea what people are talking about. I am assuming that players are destroying everyone's stuff because there isn't a new update.

The minecraft site was DDoS'd because someone wanted more updates and wasn't mature enough to wait.

It's true, you can't judge a community by a subset. Take the B12 forums and the flame-filled posts about DF 'ripoffs'. Or the Minecraft community and the comments on Notch's blog... and the forums... and the public servers.

Yah, there are some really good members on the minecraft forums (I lurk there a lot). The problem is they do tend to get drowned out by the waves of idiots that have just bought the game and have already exhausted their limited imagination. I really feel sorry for the more level headed posters there. You don't realise just how awesome the bay12 forums are until you get a comparison (or god forbid, read the blog comments).
