If you mean Adminite and the holes in that, it's easy: We won't reach that depth. I engineered it to stop about 2-4 blocks above it.

Rapture was made in a pit that was map edited. It's open game to remove the Admintine so you can add another few layers down there. Possibly even bottomless pits if you wish.

No, if you go to a far edge of a ring and look straight across at the moment, you'll be able to see the sun and moon setting/rising.

Kinda odd to see that sorta thing while underground eh?

It'll also make it so the sea of lava won't be visible from the highest point.

About admintine removal; I'd need to tinker with llamacraft a bit to make it possible to edit it near the bottom.

It turns out Notch has been having difficulties with DDoS attacks. The asshole behind it apparently posted this on 4Chan, although that site likes Minecraft so either this is one dude who wanted his message to spread or some dude who didn't do crap and is just saying this to make the forums go up in flame.

Quote
"It's purpose is to send Notch a clear message of how the future of minecraft will turn out unless he gets to work, namely by influencing the amount of sales taking place, due to the attacks."

"We have roughly 83,000 bots available, and preserved for this seizure, we could if we wanted to keep this going for weeks, however we have decided to give it a week, and see whether or not your attitude, and commitment will change, we believe it will when money stops rolling in for the time being..."

 ...

I've seen plenty of douches use this argument for a long time every time the Friday Update isn't gravity or multi-block boats or everything in SMP working perfectly, and this guy has become the douche king, whether he's behind the attacks or not.

Hmm... interesting. Notch had better get a decent security assessment. SYN floods can be beaten, but not easily. Assuming it's a simple SYN flood (which, IIRC, is what Notch posted on his blog), then it can be partially countered with with a SYNcookie configuration - my sources (read: the textbook I'm staring at. Conveniently we just covered network attack/defense in class!) claim that an implementation is present in Linux, "and some other systems", so Notch might want to incorporate counter-measures into the server.

If it's a more advanced attack, then you've either got to bring in more server power/bandwidth, wait for the attackers to get bored, or concoct an entirely new defense.

And as for the moron behind this: yeah. You want Notch to spend more time on Minecraft. Your solution is to make him waste time countering a SYN flood. This is effective in what way, exactly?  ::)

Exactly. This is incredibly dumb.

How does Notch handle this? I'd break down to a gibbering wreck in a straitjacket after a month or two.

Hopefully? By spending his time actually coding the game instead of trying to placate idiots. They bought the game, that doesn't mean they have any real impact on the developer.

Unfortunately I doubt Notch thinks that way, seeing as he has a blog...

They can have a negative impact on the developer: They can create bad publicity and loss of sales that way, and they can retaliate against him (which they are doing right now).

Of course, everybody and their mother has a blog these days, professional AAA developers included. So the "had a blog" argument doesn't hold much digital water.  :P

But yeah, unless Notch can counter the attack, his best strategy is to keep coding and hope the attacks simmer down. Maybe configure the website to block probable attack IPs, and wait for either the IP block list to accumulate and work, or else wait for the attacker to get bored. Sooner or later the site is bound to come up again, and with any luck Notch will have something to show for it (especially if he's going to make this Oct. 31st deadline!).

If he was planning on a surprise Friday update, fat chance it'll come out now.

If they keep this up for a few weeks, then they shot down that update too and they only have themselves to blame.

I doubt he was planning for any updates before the Halloween one - after all, the outline for it was pretty all-inclusive with regards to features he was planning on. Of course, when players usually can't access the website anyways, releasing an update would be a waste of time.  :(
