Digging one block causes all connected blocks to collapse.
Don't even have to dig a block. If they're going to fall, just putting a torch beside or on the unstable blocks will incite the cave in. Good way to check for danger without wasting tool durability.

I love TNT.
From what I'm told, TNT can destroy some of the blocks it clears, so don't use it near something you want to keep.  ( I have not tested this though and the wiki isn't clear on that.  )

Yes, you don't get 100% of the blocks back from TNT and exploding one near floating blocks will kill some of those as well.

still, it's good for clearing rocks and finding ore.

Any ideas on making TNT drills? You know, stacking TNT blocks in a way that it makes a pit straight to hell adminite?

All I can think of as an idea is sticking gravel/sand between TNT boxes with a 4 (or 6)-block separation or something as a buffer between. My only worry is that after the buffer is removed, the impact of the second will set off the others in the stack. Oh, and if you're wondering how to get down from the 'drill' and land safely, I suggest you bring a bucket of water, plant it on the edge of the drill, let it flow to the ground, then pick up the water black, wait for it to 'evaporate' for a moment, drop down, let it absorb some fall speed, and land comfortably. and no mess leftover. I tested that method of base jumping, and it works wonders. No HP loss.

Anyway, here's what I mean about the TNT-drill setup. (T = TNT, B = Buffer block (sand/gravel), G = Ground)
Just rotate the idea by 90 degrees. If it works, this is a really cheap way to mine if you're low on TNT reserves.

And regarding the fluid cushion, I advise you use water, not magma.

Here's the map dump from when the server exploded on October 9th.
A bit late, I know.

That's because nobody could get close enough to the fire to make it spread for very long, as the server choked and disconnected them.

Hey jay, is there a place that I can get the Jaycraft map from? The actual save file? I have an idea for a mega construction, and it needs a large forest, which your map has. :D

Whoa. Did some actual explosions happen? A good chunk of my stuff was just gone and it looks like there were some craters and miscellaneous random blocks left.

I read somewhere that if a cat falls more than 11 stories, it instinctively flares its legs out to increase air resistance. This slows it down enough to stick the landing with relatively minor injuries. In Dwarf Fortress, apparently, cats don't do that.

We spent the day detonating TNT as Tylui was gone and there was no way for me to do anything at that time.
The thicket being on fire didn't affect you unless you loaded it.

Shortly after that it all turned into TNT and I now have an artfully reconstructed hill, complements of the OPs.
