I have to say, Tylui is really doing great things for Jaycraft.
If you see him, thank him :D

Not only has he bought jaybud.com, he bought a VPS and is now hosting both the Jaycraft site and the server on the same system.
Head on over to jaybud.com in your browser, as it is the new location of the Jaycraft site.
Or connect to it in Minecraft, as it is also the game server.
Fun times.

My boosters don't work anymore for minecarts!
It boosts fine but they don't accelerate to max speed, they just go for a bit and die out.

Tree experiments...

I found a nice empty spot (well, I made it):

Got my first tall boy... next to it is two blocks:

Shortly after that, another one popped up:

Nothing from the middle ones that have arms reaching in yet...

I realized I'm going to hate cleaning this up.

Edit:
This one is interesting... after I posted, this one grew up AROUND the post of 6 dirt next to it: (I cleared away the leaves to see how high up it went)

According to the wiki, trees growing near other trees will grow larger. As for minecart boosters, I suggest the aforementioned "autocart" mod. Works wonderfully; minecarts go at max speed all the time, even up hill.

I just had two trees pop up (one in my tree pots that I don't think you can see in the photos...) both had only one level of block(s) by them and they are both small trees.

Pot is in the back, left of picture and the small one popped up next to a single block on the right:

You can also see one of the "arm posts" finally came up, but again, the leaves are around the post top.

I'd have to do another test to figure out if the proximity to other trees is messing up this experiment, so maybe this is flawed.  I left 5 spaces between trees (even the pots.)

Flint and iron. Nice way to clean it up. At least the foliage.

EDIT:
I can't believe I forgot about a nearby cavern just east of my Starter Mine. I'm spelunking it right now. Just realized it when reed farming.

Good point.  I haven't even made one piece of flint/steel yet and this would be a good time to start ;)

Also, going to save the board and not post anymore pictures...
But it looks like you need at least 2-3 blocks near the sapling to get a tall tree to form.  My 5 deep pot just popped a tall tree (though it looks short cause it's mostly 5 underground)

If yeh just leave 'em free floating, the leaves'll disappear on their own in a day or two, usually dropping a junkload of saplings in the process. Just make sure the leaf blocks aren't touching anything besides more leaf blocks and the problem will solve itself. Just go away for a day or two :P

Or burn it. Burning doesn't seem to produce saplings, though. Probably not much of an issue when you've got two-three hundred saplings sitting in a box.

It's getting to the higher blocks generated by the big trees that is the pain in the behind. Have to make block lattices or ladders or something to get to the things. Going from the top down works, but it takes a bloody long time :-\

Okay, that cavern I found eastbound, which I have formally named it the "Sandy Sinkhole Mines", is a hell of alot deeper than it initially appeared. Here's a hint for you spelunkers. Gravel is quite valuable. They seem to link to other cave systems and have a habit of hiding ores.

In SSM, I found a few pockets of iron, much gravel, and hidden behind a gravel pocket, a block of gold ore. Unfortunately, I have no iron picks right now. It'll have to wait. Nearby the gold ore, there's a small cave waterfall (already breached when I found it), and thanks to caving in gravel pockets, I found more cavern links. This place is huge. I have upped the difficulty to medium when I started spelunking. You know, to make it fun. No monsters yet, but I fear a dungeon could be near.

EDIT:
Crap, I hear hissing.

EDIT EDIT:
YAY! More gold!!!

EDIT EDIT EDIT:
Okay, that cavern is larger than Spelunker Mines. No dungeon, and I don't know the source of the hissing. However, I now have a metric crap-ton of coal. I've reset the difficulty to peaceful after A FREAKING CREEPER WELCOMED ME!!! I killed it before it had a chance to detonate, but still. Holy crap.

I have too much crap on me, I lack an iron pick to mine the gold and anything else more difficult to mine, and I want that gold while I remember the map of the cave.

EDIT EDIT EDIT EDIT:
I got 18 gold blocks, and found more trace deposits of iron, and yet again, tons more coal and gravel, and risked a few dirt pits. I also got lost in that cave for a few moments. Holy crap. I may have to do an update for the underground map.

Code: [Select]
if(megaproject.IsComplete())
{
      Epeen.Wave();
}
My Great Library is complete! I used probably 500 or more brick blocks in that thing. >_>
