Quick question for those of you who run a server:  How do you change which map is used?  I would like to set the map on my server to be a backup of my single-player map.  is that possible?

Replace "world" with the save folder.

Well I've had the server up for about a week with no one joining and I was just thinking people got bored...then I realized that one of the autoupdates for the admin software I used somehow screwed up all my ports. So essentially, no one can join and only one person actually mentioned not being able to connect so I never figured anything was wrong. Anyways, server is back up.

Even though I bought the game, I'm waiting for more multi-player fixes before venturing to coop/online land.  I started my own server and when the mine carts crashed my client, I decided to wait.

Gah... mass brick production takes so long.  :'(

If only it were faster so I could built my massive glass and brick library to house my massive bookshelf collection...  :P

Any tips for finding clay while we're at it? I mean, I don't want to scar parts of my land too bad, but I still want a decent yield.

Also while I'm asking, what do you think is a good amount of tracks to make to start with; or at least, what's a good amount of iron to have before considering making use of mine carts? I have at least 125 ingots of steel in my inventory, and if I plan on expanding into the Great Plains, I might as well setup a quicker route via cart.

Greater Mines are nice and all, but I dunno about working on them for now anymore. I'm split after discovering, and cleaning out, the Spelunker Mines.

Clay is virtually always visible above ground, and it's only found on sandy beaches.  Look for places where rough, multi-level land meets large bodies of water, that's where I always seem to find clay.

Bear in mind that it takes 24 iron bars to make 64 pieces of track, and 64 pieces of track doesn't go nearly as far as you think it will.  I used like eight or nine full stacks of track to make my railway, and it takes about four minutes to ride from one end to the other with a coal-powered cart-train.

Generally, clay is exposed to the surface and bordering, if not in water. I find the best way to locate it is just to explore around; this will however increase your file size and make future stuff less interesting (new stuff like swamps from future updates can't gen in already genned areas). Or if you, like I, are not to concerned with cheating, Cartographer. With cartographer, you can single out a single material to render locations of, which is really handy. First gen a normal map w/o any other special parameters, followed by a 'only 82' map for clay. Copy and paste overlay the clay map onto the other map and viola! You now have all the locations of clay on your map in one handy place.

It depends; I personally abandoned use of tracks for most uses, but if you can maintain a downhill slope the entire way, they can be quite nice. Powered minecarts are slower than walking, so don't count on those for transport.

Great mines are generally good for stone or depending how deep they are, redstone. If you want iron, coal, or diamonds, cave exploration is much quicker, albiet more dangerous. Then again, if you really don't care for cheating, you could theoretically do an overlay like for clay and dig verticle shafts (HIGHLY DANGEROUS, I ended up in a hole full of nasties of every variety when diamond hunting this way) into your satellite pinpointed mineral locations.

Jaycraft is down for me as well.  Gives me an "End of Stream" error when I try to connect.  However, the server status on Jay's site says it's fine.  So, uh, that's strange.

I want to see something that has the music being 'played' by the game, ie, torches at points where pings are and whole rings of torches as heavy beats, complete darkness during the night (timed well) to signal Silence in the music and so on, it would be epic as your FLYING down a rail like that...

I'm actually finding more iron as I dig for diamonds (mainly because I'm literally inspecting very block in an area.)

It takes some amount of time to get your first three diamonds for a pick, but after you get your first, it really picks up...

I use a method of digging 1x2 shafts (to walk in) every other block starting from bedrock and staggered like so:
Code: [Select]
XXXXXXXXXXXXX
X XXX XXX XXX
XXX XXX XXX X
X XXX XXX XXX
XXX XXX XXX X
I usually make them 64 tiles long leaving torches only when I can't differentiate between blocks for lack of light.
