Current lessons in animal ignition: Sheep do not drop wool when set on fire, nor when they burn to death. Chickens can apparently lay eggs while immolated. Cows do not seem more or less prone to dropping skin when flambe'd. Pig meat is not pre-cooked when its generation is heat-induced.

Setting animals on fire is a decent way to pass peaceful nights.

Haven't looked back in the thread, but people have seen this right?

Different dimension realms sound awesome.

Everything except the torch thing sounds awesome.

I guess it wouldn't be so bad if lanterns were still easy-ish to craft and stackable. Otherwise... yergh. Need light, everywhere. Or at least a way to up the gamma. I wouldn't care so much about the critters if night time wasn't completely pitch freaking black on my monitor. Staring at a blank screen regularly is kinda' annoying :-\

It says there is going to be lanterns, which last forever.  I bet they just require more materials or some such.

I hadn't seen that, but it does sound awesome. I really like the fast travel idea and don't dislike the idea of torches going out all that much, especially with lanterns and the ability to relight torches. Plus improved multiplayer's always nice.

The moment the lever was pulled, somebody's pet kitten stepped onto the bridge. I read somewhere that if a cat falls more than 11 stories, it instinctively flares its legs out to increase air resistance. This slows it down enough to stick the landing with relatively minor injuries. In Dwarf Fortress, apparently, cats don't do that.

Expiring torches sounds a bit like makework to me. No need to add chores to the game. Other than that it's all good.

Someone should explain to notch how to disable comments on tumblr blogs.

Someone told me Notch mentioned that when he implements lanterns, the update will change all existing torches into their replacements. I guess torches will be meant more for exploration, like how we do in caves, which is nice. I don't think we will be able to relight them, they will probably just vanish after a while.

I think it could add to the game, especially multiplayer. Plenty of times I've found pre-explored mines which are 100% safe and boring whereas post update they will be crawling with mobs. I imagine going caving will be more fraught with danger.

I know it's unrealistic, but I can't help but imagine little bearded babies for dwarves. In my mind, they come out of the womb fully bearded. That's how the mother carries them around, too, she just drags them around by the beard or ties it to her belt. When the father's on duty, he just ties their beards together and the baby just kind of hangs there, swinging to and fro with Urist McDaddy's movements.

I'll run the next Jaycraft update in DejaVu Sans, but I'm kinda liking Century Gothic...
Any other -serious- suggestions?

You really aren't thinking like a dwarf.

If you think it is down too far, you move it up until it reaches an acceptable elevation.

So long as we can *carry* torches, I'll be happy. Having caves not be fully lit would make exploring them a little more... exciting. But Minecraft is bloody dark if you've got no light source, and having to constantly place and remove torches as you move would be a total pain. So long as I've got some personal source of light in the darkness and therefore don't have to squint at my monitor/crank up the brightness, I'm happy.  :D
