Ffff keeps crashing on me upon start. Server loads fine and everything, then it flashes, and gives me a java crash. I updated it yesterday, and it was working, then today it started crashing again.

Jaycraft Runecraft is updated to 1.92.
Runecraft guide is broken off from the main site in terms of links, so you won't murder the "private"ness of the server by linking to it.
Just link to it, not the main page, though, of course.

EDIT3: Minimap instructions on the site now, like everything else.
Click through my signature link to find them.

Loving this cave.

Found 52 iron, 21 gold, and 12 diamonds.
It seems like there's no end to it.

so, i started playing on the little free account of minecraft

found the fps settings

genned a new world

when i looked in the direction of the general "world" i got 5 fps

when i turned to the open ocean i got 70 fps

with full fog i got decent fps facing the
"world"

so by using this im assuming that minecraft will be super slow for me if i buy it

If you think you'll have issues, then don't buy it (or get a new computer, it's worth it.  :P ).

There are no 'secret optimizations' unlocked when you pay for it or anything. TBH, Minecraft is a pretty-poorly optimized game, especially in regards to memory (and Java really, really is not optimized with regards to memory in the first place) - I've never played a game that gave me HD thrashing with 4GB of memory installed.

Now, that said, let's diagnose. Your lag lessened when you looked at the ocean. This sounds like a graphics issue to me. This seems... odd, since one of the few areas where Minecraft's speed is halfway-decent is graphics. I haven't played the free version lately (heck, I don't even know what the free version entails anymore!), but if water is animated in the free version, I'm quite surprised that staring at water was less demanding than staring at land.

My summary? Update Java, first of all. Then try playing for a few minutes with minimal fog, and see if the lag clears up over time. If neither of those work, then it's probably your graphics card that's insufficient (and we can confirm this if you'll tell us what card you're using).

Holy hell. If you haven't come across this thread yet, do now. http://www.bay12forums.com/smf/index.php?topic=64473.0
You can upload your DF map into minecraft. My day has now been made. The main problem it has is minecraft's maximum height restriction (thus only allowing a couple dozen layers to be shown), thus only getting the few levels closest to the surface. It isn't as good a visualizer as an actual visualizer program, since some of the stuff doesn't convert too well, but living in a fort in not one, but 2 entirely different game universes is just awesome. I suggest small, possibly nano-forts if you actually want to play it for any length of time, as the conversion process makes the fort sprawling in the horizonal direction.

I went exploring the depths of my massive DF fort and came across a creeper. "Horrors in the deep!"

Hm, minecraft.net seems to be down again.
Damnit.

EDIT: As of now, I'm phasing out Runecraft.html in favor of RCGuide.html.
WHAT THIS MEANS: The Runecraft Guide will no longer link back to the main site at all.
Just use your brain and use the back button or open it in a new tab.

Jay... hint hint... convert the screenshot images to jpeg at 75-80 quality. 500kb for a small screenshot is creepy.

Okay, with the main server down, and everybody disconnected, Jaycraft is just sitting idle, even though it's online.
I'm going to put it out of its misery for now.

It's a Steamworks game, so you're going to be Steaming it one way or another.

Notch, bring Minecraft.net back! Interestingly, if you Google "Notch", his blog is the first link. Not that it helps, since it seems to be down as well. Probably overwhelmed by people like me trying to find out what's happening.  ;)

(Or it's been overwhelmed by highly-trained botnetters launching a massive, coordinated DDoS attack against Minecraft et al. /endConspiracy)
