Less monsters, but they do more damage.

The less monsters thing is important, since you get less total loot.
Loot? As in feathers and stuff?

Egyptland progress update:

A few more people joined in on the fun. I know it doesn't look like much, but you can see more now than you could yesterday.

Somehow, my porter got disassociated with the receiver, so I had to go fix that. Funny. In any game not labeled "Skylands," blowing 36 diamonds on a porter would make me cringe.

      Bad video card drivers!
      -----------------------

Minecraft was unable to start because it failed to find an accelerated OpenGL mode.
This can usually be fixed by updating the video card drivers.

There's a lot more, but it mostly consists of "WORDS WORDS WORDS WORDS".
Does anyone know what I should do?

As someone who is definitely intrigued by this game, can someone give me a quick pitch as to what it is like and why it's worth downloading (buying?)?

It's temporarily free due to the server dying. Go grab it and try it for yourself, but you'll have to pay to keep playing Alpha once the server gets fixed.

I'm trying out the free weekend.  :P It's fun.

But does anyone have the recipes? The wiki's down I think.

My pitch: you're a DF player, it almost certainly follows that you like sandbox games.  Minecraft is a rapidly maturing sandboxer oriented toward constructions.  It doesn't have the depth of interactions between objects that DF has, or the user extensibility, but for a pure building/digging game it's pretty close to perfect.

This is the video recently linked on Notch's blog.  Drool over these structures, then tell yourself, yes I can make something just as impressive.

GameFAQ's question of the day?

Have you played Minecraft yet?

Wow, each day a major website mentions Minecraft.  That's pretty cool.

I found something interesting.  I noticed a deep area of ocean right by a piece of flat shore.  I checked it out — it was very deep.

I dropped a cassion around the deep section using gravel, and used buckets to clear out the top layer of ocean inside it.  (Later I thought of just filling in the top layer with dirt, then digging it out again.)

After the water drained away, I used a gravel elevator to drop in safely.  It turned out to be a cave entrance.  A very nice cave, too.  Deep, many intertwining branches, and a monster generator.

Anyone seen something similar?

Anyone come across this from the other direction, like you're exploring and run into an area just flooded with running water?

Minecraft; Terror from the deep

Sounds like a rather interesting feature.

Hey guys (or whoever I'm supposed to ask), now may not be the best time, but can I give the server IP to a guy I know(irl)?

I've got his word that he won't screw with people's stuff, and he's generally a good person. He also plays DF, if that's a deciding factor.
