So did I.
I'd say it spread downwards, but having a fireplace is kinda pointless because the logs burn too fast. If they don't get bugged and bun forever that is.

The log will never burn out if all the other sides are covered. In the video the book case was too close.
But yeah, a log will burn infinitely if it's in the ground, or only the top is un-covered.

I've burnt trees that left infinitely burning logs.
I thought that fire only spreads to tiles next to the fire? there was wood beneath the log so wouldn't that one start burning first?

He had only one tile of air in between the file block and the wall. I look at fire spreading as if an air block has a flammable block and a fire block adjacent to it, it will become a fire block.

I did a little experimenting.

Fired a wood block, and just before it burnt up a stone block next to it ignited for less than a second.
Next time I ignited a wood block it burnt infinitely, only a block beneath and none around.
Stacked 2 wood and made a square of dirt around the top one which I ignited, Infinite burn and did not spread down.

So i guess the guy was just unfortunate.

You light a fire in the middle of a wood house and it's likely to burn down. He wasn't just unlucky. Same with lava blocks as they randomly spew out fireballs that can cause ignition.

Hence why it's smart to build your house out of bricks, like the 3rd little piggy did.

True true. Wood goes in furnaces, you just don't go make houses of it like some elf.

Will be a bit hard to propel the magma in any other direction than down, won't it?

Those fireballs have always been simple particle effects that have no effect on anything.
When did that change?

Now there is just the question of what to do with the mountain behind it. I was thinking of a massive farming complex, but I'm open to suggestions.

It didn't, the little fireballs don't cause the fires by landing on things, just things adjacent to lava catch fire.

I know it's unrealistic, but I can't help but imagine little bearded babies for dwarves. In my mind, they come out of the womb fully bearded. That's how the mother carries them around, too, she just drags them around by the beard or ties it to her belt. When the father's on duty, he just ties their beards together and the baby just kind of hangs there, swinging to and fro with Urist McDaddy's movements.

You have a point. Perhaps just a tnt shooting Death star, that craps lava.

Being able to add onto the boat and making a big frigate you can actually sail would be awesome. We could have an archipelago map and have piratey wars :D
