I hope that... one day... Blocks have weight values... and that you can build a ship out of wood blocks... And sail out of cloth blocks... and the same will have wind... and let you sail.  If your design doesn't suck and sinks.

This is completely impossible with the current system. It would take more work to make Minecraft work like that than it would take to make an entire new game.

Do not get your hopes up.

There is already wind, a constant wind to the west. Currently only useful for TNT cannons

I assume he was talking more about the whole "blocks become entities/boats made block by block" thing.

Not to mention if the current wind was used, all sailboats would go west. All the time. That'd be weird. So either wind would have to change randomly, or these block/entity boats would have to have a sort of steering mechanism.

Basically it's like that one guy's post that Duke brought up a while back. Although his suggestion was much more ridiculous and he apparently had it all planned out as to how it would work and how easy it'd be to implement.

Wrong.
You can use sails to direct wind flow to make the ship move in a different direction.

On the topic of wind I'd really like to see flags, which billow in the wind, added to the game. Ideally they should be customisable like player skins currently are. Perhaps have a few fixed sizes. 32x16, 15x32, 16x16, 32x32, maybe others. Being able to leave sections transparent would be cool. You might want to limit the number of different designs each player can have.

Fake edit: Found what I was looking for. Essentially I picture it a little like the flags in this custom art set:

I'd imagine something like this has already been suggested on the minecraft forums.

I'd really like to see more user customisation similar to player skins.

Shame is, nobody else can see the names. The signs they can see, just none of the text. :C

Copyboy’s been working on a crazy sweet mod for Minecraft Classic, with a custom server with actual working portals and textures based on work by Cosine.

[edit:]And here’s the forum thread about it![/edit]

Unfortunately, it’s a bit tricky to get the custom textures installed, but this mod has convinced me that I need to add the ability for servers to download a custom texture pack to the client in Minecraft.

I’ve played it for a bit, and I’ve watched ez play it for even longer, and I love it. :D Great job, guys!

Custom server textures :D.

As if penis statues aren't enough of a problem... now they'll be realistically textured.

So you don't join a server that forces "RealPenis 1337" textures down your throat.  (Okay, that's a pretty obscene double entendre..  Let's just move along, shall we?)
Same old, same old.

I know it's unrealistic, but I can't help but imagine little bearded babies for dwarves. In my mind, they come out of the womb fully bearded. That's how the mother carries them around, too, she just drags them around by the beard or ties it to her belt. When the father's on duty, he just ties their beards together and the baby just kind of hangs there, swinging to and fro with Urist McDaddy's movements.

Seeing such a non-standard mod for Minecraft gives me hope for the future of modding it. Server-based textures, new tile types. It'd be awesome to see a SS13 mod for it, and as is we're nearly there.

How do I do this? I think I made a sword, although it just looks like a deku stick.  It is a stick.

The wiki, specifically the crafting page, is what you want.
