Exactly how far out do torches stop mobs from appearing? My walled city seems kind of pointless, aside from the aesthetics of it, when nothing spawns anywhere near it. :/
I've had monsters crawling all over my tower grounds, which has enough torches to cover a small plot around it.

I think you might be experiencing the mob spawner glitch. It likes to stop spawning hostile mobs a night or two in lately. I don't know if notch fixed it or not though.

I shall build a stone statue of a large dwarf holding  giant torch made of wood and torches.
He shall ward off evil such as elves creepers from my lands.

You should all be ashamed of yourselves.  The obvious solution is to chain the baby up at the entrance as a kobold detector.

And my 2fort map received a bit more work:

What you cannot see yet is that I have the frame for most of the inside building behind the front, so it's just a matter of filling walls and floors. Red side will be entirely wood (and fluff blocks) while Blue will be stone.

DO IT!

It's like having a map from a game, inside the other game, inside the first game.

Then your next challenge will be 2fort in minecraft with tf2 textures.

I know it's unrealistic, but I can't help but imagine little bearded babies for dwarves. In my mind, they come out of the womb fully bearded. That's how the mother carries them around, too, she just drags them around by the beard or ties it to her belt. When the father's on duty, he just ties their beards together and the baby just kind of hangs there, swinging to and fro with Urist McDaddy's movements.

Did I just get a mixed map? It spawned like this, one side has snow and ice, and the other doesn't, yet snow isn't falling anywhere. What?

Wouldn't doing it right mean making the Red side out of brick?  I'm aware how ridiculously hard that would be.  That's the bragging right.
