I thought I got up a camp a few miles apart, underground river to get there and minecarts to get the rest of the way, turns out the minecarts are just over a small hill from my first camp. so I just moved in a giant arc.
:( On the plus side the minecarts took all my resources I managed to gather and traverse a lake.

Why does anybody want to play it? It doesn't work yet!

I'm totally ok with waiting until next wednesday or friday or even the monday after next- or possibly even this sunday- for him to finish multiplayer.

I went to live on an island, thinking it would be safer. It IS. But now the island is flooded with sheeps, pigs , cows... which wouldn't be bad if it wasn't such a small island. and they always push my boat away. Does light spawn animals?

recently I opened a new mine and found myself in a big cave... and it was full of zombies and skeletons! scary. I had to wall off most of it, ceiling included since it had 2 levels. and even then, before I could close the last tile, an exploding creeper comes down and explodes on me, nearly killing me. at least, it mined some redstone.
caves are very scary :S. how do you people deal with them usually? even with full metal gear and roasted pig, I find it very difficult to move in a cave.

Grass spawns animals...just make the entire island sand or something.

Also, anyone here have a code?
Just wondering if he's givin' any out yet.

Coins with fixed values seem like something Notch would use for the eventual NPC settlements that you can interact with.  The default value will probably be ignorable by humie players, no?

@Calhoun: Yeah, I don't see trading working well in any form in minecraft, due to everything being so easily found. But if you want to avoid strip mining, it's better to just give an epeen supply. If strip mining isn't the problem, then who cares. *shrugs*

Well, depends. If NPCs provide items at a fixed cost, that'll pretty much set an upper bound to what you can charge.

If it costs 10 coins for 64 Cobblestone at an NPC, there's no possibility for a player to charge 11 or more coins for his stack. And charging 9 or fewer would be possible, but you'd look like a total sucker.

(Of course, location does matter - if I'm ferrying Cobblestone from a distant NPC to your new castle, I might be able to charge a premium for "shipping & handling". But a true, supply-and-demand economy anywhere in the vicinity of a fixed-price NPC would be impossible.)

Hopefully that'll be controlable on a per server basis.

This is something that came up in the SA thread, and our main idea was that it was the way of claiming land.
You have a chest/vault which you have to put gold coins in. The larger your claim, the more gold you need to have.
That way you can't have massive castles etc without the manpower to provide the coins.

Interesting...

You know, I was thinking that there is one way in which Survivor MP will be much more safe from griefers; everybody hates griefers, and now everyone has health bars and weapons. It would take a gang of griefers storming onto the map all at once to harm a group of friends on the map, and the ligitimate players can simply kill 'em, then go over to the spawn point and kill 'em some more. They'll get bored and leave eventually.

And, you can't dig and fight.

The only way to actually attack someone in SMP is either to ninja-dig their home while they're away, or else to go someplace and build a camp and mine some ore and build some armor and weapons and THEN ride out and try to attack someone, but by that point you're basically playing the game already. You're just RPing a barbarian.

One way or the other, I'm really looking forward to giving some trolls a beatdown

Hmm...dirt isn't that hard to get... unless land claim flags go into the sky for a LONG way, it won't be that difficult to pillar jump then make a bridge over their castle. (Well, it'll take practice. Bridge building is hard -.-)
