Wow... I just took another look at the wiki's crafting page... the new update added apples and golden apples. Golden apples require 8 gold blocks to make. That's 71 gold bars!

Well, They are the best healing item in the game!

Plus, Gold can't be used for much, really.

I know it's unrealistic, but I can't help but imagine little bearded babies for dwarves. In my mind, they come out of the womb fully bearded. That's how the mother carries them around, too, she just drags them around by the beard or ties it to her belt. When the father's on duty, he just ties their beards together and the baby just kind of hangs there, swinging to and fro with Urist McDaddy's movements.

Known bug since the update today, Soulwynd. Best solution seems to be just gen a new map. Which, Kind of sucks.

Gold picks suck why did I make one.

Because it was GOLD?

But yeah, gold tools are equal in quality to wooden ones.

Well, it's true that gold's pretty useless, but on the other hand, one golden apple is only slightly better than three slabs of roasted pork (not counting that you can't eat PART of an apple, you have to use the whole thing), and takes easily hundreds of times more work.

If gold apples made you invulnerable for a short time, or maybe gave you one permanent additional heart, then they could be worthwhile.

Sure, sure. However, it gives you the healing power in a smaller package, plus, again, what else you gonna do with your gold?

Though, you have to fnid an apple in a dungeon in the first place!

Dude, this isn't a question. It's a challenge. I hope you know that.  ;D

Tell you what. You get enough gold (Legitimately) to build a sizable castle out of gold blocks and I'll do anything you want.

So my friend recently came over and messed with the minecraft.jar file. He said he was trying to add a new graphic set, but that didn't explain why he deleted the contents of the .jar.. and then deleted the .jar itself.

So my question is, how do I go about playing the game again? When I log into my account from browser mode it simply gets stuck on "Updating..  Done Loading". The executable does the same thing obviously, and I haven't found a way to restore the .jar. I'm not sure if a new update will restore it, but I'd rather not wait until Monday.

Just delete the whole Bin folder. That should force it to redownload everything, or the file named "version".

Your friend needs to read tutorials a bit closer, it seems.

Heh, the still picture on his blog looks better than the stream he did yesterday but it was still cool to see things in motion.

Here's a list of things Notch mentioned during the stream. http://dl.dropbox.com/u/8814926/Notch%20on%20Livestream.txt

As for epic PvP there are a few things Notch mentioned that might help.
Quote from: Above list
seige weapons
different tiers of arrows (Tnt arrows)
Rituals confirmed, such as summoning large creeper armies.

I am in favour of land claim flags for the most part, it would be nice if it worked a little like Heaven and Hearth where you can mess with other peoples things but you leave clues that point back to you when you do it. It doesn't even need to work exactly like H&H but I'd like to see some formal structure that supports this kind of game play.

Hopefully with the ability to backup and reload chunks some servers will disable claim flags, ban griefers and undo any damage but still allow for people to RP with in house rules. Maybe it would be a good idea for Notch to implement logs of who did what in which chunks to help with moderation?

There is one worry I have for land claiming. What happens if I'm in a claimed bit of land and I get stuck in a 2 tile deep pit?
