So... How do you make logic gates with the red powder? I can't manage anything more complex than opening/closing a door.

I can't even manage opening and closing a door with those red torches, except for sticking them right next to a door like a key.  What the fuck are these "wires" people keep talking about?  Sticking torches next to each other doesn't make a wire, and that's as far as I can analyze it.

The "wires" are the Redshit placed on the ground. They react to Red Torches, Levers, Buttons and Pressure pads. Red torches give a continuous ON signal, while Levers turn things ON and OFF with a right-click, and Buttons and Pressure pads quickly activate and deactivate things.

When you hold the red stone in your hand, right click on the ground and that will make a poder spot which carries signals from levers, red torches etc to doors.
If you place those red powder spots in a line they will make something like a wire but watchout not to step on it because it will destroy the wire.

EDIT: Damn, Tradanbattlan was faster than me.

...OOOOOHHHHHH Okay, see, I saw on the Minecraft forum something about putting the red powder on the ground, but I thought they meant throwing it out of your inventory as a released object.  Which obviously doesn't work, so then I thought that was just a stupid rumor.

Don't I look silly.  I was wondering why you get so damn much of the stuff from veins.

I know it's unrealistic, but I can't help but imagine little bearded babies for dwarves. In my mind, they come out of the womb fully bearded. That's how the mother carries them around, too, she just drags them around by the beard or ties it to her belt. When the father's on duty, he just ties their beards together and the baby just kind of hangs there, swinging to and fro with Urist McDaddy's movements.

The 'torches' are NOT gates. OR gates should be fairly simple. Not quite sure how one would do an AND gate. XOR would be (!(A && B) && (A || B)). && is AND, ! is NOT, || is OR.

How? As far as I can tell they are just a continuous "1" no matter what you do.

I believe using a lever and redstone dust. Not quite sure, however.

For all your redstone circuitry needs:

Here's the list of all basic logic gates (they are optimized to take the least space possible, but they are definitely not the only ways to make each type of gate):
