This is great.
http://www.minecraftforum.net/viewtopic.php?f=35&t=16899

Seven pages of people whining about how their logic gates take up a slightly larger area.

So... wait.

Notch adds a new feature to an alpha game. 3 days later, he makes a change to that feature, with the intent of making this feature easier to use and understand. The entire forum explodes.

Epic.

Cool thread and windmill bro.

Ah, my castle is coming along nicely.  Gold chandeliers and everything.  Not that everything is going totally smooth.  Goddamn skeletons.

Pretty much spot on.

EDIT: And just like that, all discussion of the red stuff on the official forums is banned!
Poof!
They just got trolled.  Hard.

EDIT2: Notch has named it officially.
Redstone.

Note to self: When you have 64+ iron in storage, and your inventory contains a new suit of armor, several good tools, TNT, and dozens of blocks of precious ore and stone, that chunk of iron ore in the ceiling over the bottom-of-the-map lava isn't worth trying to bottom-mine towards.  Especially when you have a pile of cloth on hand exactly for building bridges.

Argh, lava.  God damn am I stingy.

Annnnd... the thread announcing the ban has been locked due to excessive flaming.

I may have to start reading those forums again.

But did you at least get the ore block? I mean, before burning to death in magma. I'd hate to think you sacrificed yourself without at least finishing the job.

(Also, doesn't cloth burn when in contact with magma? Wood used to burn if magma was directly below it... although that was a while ago... and wood isn't cloth...)

You might not be able to remove the blocks anymore, but it still works.
Note that travel is one-way, from right to left in this example.

So the recent maps ive been genning have me started off on sand in the middle of a peninsula. This angers me, so i kept genning, and got this:
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Thats directly in front of my spawn. My spawn itself is deep inside a sheer pit just behind me.

EDIT: Some more pics

My spawn is down there

To the right of the first pic...

The valley further up ahead:

From atop the fuck huge mountain behind me in the first pic:
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

This is the single best spawn ever.

Im also stoked for SMP; i want to be a guy that carries everything with him, going from town to town and trading stuff.

Those forums are hilarious. I'm upgrading them on my list of worst-forums-ever to top slot. Nicely done, Minecraft community, nicely done.

Imagine a minecraft MMO with the infinite maps, but free to play once you've purchased, just like guild wars.

Isn't that exactly what's being promised?  Except there's no dedicated off-site servers, so I guess not.

Then I guess the real question is, how many players can one server support?
