How do you create a stair block?  Didn't see it on the wiki.  On a side note: I'm glad someone took the initiative to organize the wiki.

All you have to do is make a stairs shape with cobblestone.
You know,
Code: [Select]
# = cobblestone, . = air

# . .
# # .
# # #

Or wood. Wood makes stairs.

Done and done.

Oh, just read the thing about that thread. I "know" the guy who originally uploaded the video from another forum. It went like this:

Bashur made a minecraft video with music.
Person X (no idea, really) steals this video without crediting Bashur.
Bashur deletes his old video 'cause he didn't like the music after all.
Bashur reuploads the video with new music.

Notch posts the new video, praising it.
Person X claims that that video was stolen from him and that the thief just changed the music.
Hilarity ensues.

Dunno if that is the truth, but I have watched the first video I mentioned, the one uploaded by Bashur. Then again, I'm not absolutely sure about the chronological order.

They both have communities behind them that support them, and would never believe their person would steal a video, but I've read the entire thread, first post to last post, and that coupled with the fact mentioned above, the most likely thing is that they are indeed both the same person! Its probably not true, mind you, I would really be surprised if it was, but from those two factors, it really seems like they are.

Doomish, AKA Left3DeadTour, AKA Person X, the man who claimed his video was stolen, seemed the least childish in the thread. Bashur made a horrible rap video about how much Doomish sucks and is lying, its out there, but I've never watched it, the forum said it made their ears die a death worse than most elves, perhaps near a certain fortress made from dwarves.

Bashur refused to give proof, saying he already had, and had refused to simply give credit, which is really all Doomish wanted in the first place, or to stop saying that this was his video. (It was his music, though.)

Bashur threaded to sue, said he wasn't blocking Doomish's comments, right until Doomish provided a screenshot saying he was. Then he just ignored anything to do with that subject and 'left the forum' although he later came back to complain some more. Thats right when page 8 begins, actually, if I remember correctly, which I have on a text file.

That's also the main gist of the story, for everyone else who wanted to know, if the text file didn't help enough.

Weird, I have it set to all members but if you're sending me the messages I don't seem to be getting them. No idea, can you post the link to the file on the thread instead if possible?

How would you attack the enemy base when there is no entry other than a metal door that opens from the inside?

And TNT can not be placed because it would probably be inside "their" zone.

I really think walls should be able to get fortified like someone suggested on the MC forums.

http://www.minecraftforum.net/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=15361

Well as I see it you are right that the flag would prevent any kind of attack on a well made fort, but the fortifications would not help at all either, if they are implemented the way it is proposed. What would 10x more time to break through a wall help with if it normally takes a couple of seconds to break through with a good pickaxe? Really, even if it takes, say more than 100x as much, 5 minutes to break through a wall, all the attacker has to do is find a quiet spot near the wall where the defender isnt likely to check frequently, and then dig away for 10 minutes, and then the whole base is compromised. And btw, a block that takes 5 minutes to break is far too long in my opinion anyways.

So neither of these solutions would be perfect all in all.

You are right, that system would not be perfect so I am really interrested in what notch has in mind for it.
The mentioned system needs to be thought through again since this really is more complicated than it sounds.

EDIT: I got a nice little idea, if anyone is interrested I could make a trapcourse/dungeon sort of thing for you guys, upload it somewhere for you to DL and you'll have to tell me how you liked it with/without a few screenshots?
Only rules are
no breaking of blocks, torches etc unless a sign tells you to
no adding of blocks, torches etc unless a sign tells you to

you get the idea.

If you are interrested just post telling me that you are and ill get on it, it'll probably take a few days for me to finish since I will be building it by hand and not with any sort of editor or NBTedit or what is it called and I also have a life to maintain :P

EDIT EDIT: I am just doing this for fun so I don't really care that much if you cheat but it would be nice if you didn't.

Really, I have to ask: what's the fundamental issue here?

The problem isn't digging through fortifications - if you're playing offense/defense in a world like Minecraft, digging through defenses is more an intended feature than an inadvertent exploit. The game is built around digging through stuff; trying to remove that from combat would leave Minecraft as a low-res FPS. If someone's mining through your wall, shoot them with an arrow. Or wait until they've mined through and ambush them with a diamond sword.

The real problem is people digging through fortifications while the owner is absent. If you've logged off for the night, you'd want some way to 'lock down' the area. So, if we have some kind of "land-claim flag", it should block all manipulation of tiles - you're not intended to have it active while you're actually present at the fortress. If you only spend an hour a day on Minecraft, a flag should protect your base for the other 23 hours.  ;)

Well then we'd have people logging off when they get attacked.

Well then we'd have people logging off when they get attacked.
Worse yet, sticking these flags in the ground with that previous method and leaving, even if you log back in, people would have to search everywhere for the damn things.
