On the MC forums I read somewhere that someone said that notch wants to put in land claim flags for SMP does anyone know if thats true or not?
I am completely against ANY sort of building restriction just because there is a flag there, if the flag gets active after you log off then it is allright IMO because then you dont have to worry about your buildings getting destroyed while you are away, but if its active while the person is online then, I will probably forbid them untill they log off if I ever set up a server.

What are your views on this?

Why would you only allow them on log off? Either forbid them completely, or allow them completely.

As I see it, building a fort in free-for-all or team-vs-team SMP is completely stupid without these flags, since the enemies can just dig through anything you make. No use for traps, for walls, for masterly crafted labyrinths, etc. It would just be a game of "Who can hide the absolute best or else end up with a completely griefed base.

So what happens when I make a 1x1x2 hole in the ground, stick a flag in there, then cover the top?

 Is the land mine forever?

How would you attack the enemy base when there is no entry other than a metal door that opens from the inside?

And TNT can not be placed because it would probably be inside "their" zone.

I really think walls should be able to get fortified like someone suggested on the MC forums.

Maybe have it so we can only place blocks in others' territory.

... What?

So... you can't build anything, until someone places a flag, then you can only build in that territory?

Then after building a fortress, you take away the flag so it's protected...

Then some dude comes by, slaps down his own flag, and proceeds to tear through everything?
That mechanic didn't help a thing!

Yes you can clearly read.
You build whatever, then place your flag. Then, the "invaders or attackers" can build, in that they can place TNT, traps etc, but can't just mine through your walls.

What if the flags made it so the NOBODY could build in that area? Build up a couple bases, then when you are ready to fight, lock them in place. You couldn't build an impenetrable fort, because then nobody could get in or out. But still, I don't like the idea of restricting building unless in a separate competitive game mode.

My favorite block has to be the stair block, not to be confused with the half block.
