Can I get some screens or videos of basic wire usage, stairs and new doors?

Nobody really knows how the "wires" work yet, but they seem to be a kind of geometry-based binary logic-gate system.  Placing them near each other in particular ways causes them to turn on and off.  Inscrutable.  They look just like torches, but the flame is more red and they don't give off light.

The stairs have the same texture as the material, stone or wood, and look like a normal block with a slice taken out.  Just a little two-step stool thing, that orients itself by nearby blocks.

The new metal door looks just like the wooden door, including the window, but steel gray.  They only open when you place a "wire" near them, as far as I can tell.

Also, pictures now work in infdev, or indev, or Alpha, or whatever the new name is.  Except instead of resizing by placing more pictures near each other, it just picks a random picture of any size every time you place one.

Its annoying how the wires currently pop up, when walked onto, as that really has prevented me from experimenting with them.

Metal doors are opened via Pressure plates, levers, or buttons, although you can open them with wires.

Its quite a simple system, just link plate or lever or button or the like, to the door, then activate it.

The red torch things emit very little light, and might eventually be permanent torches, if the current ones are modified to burn out, after some time.

Apparently, the Red Torches are "Always On" emitters, buttons emit a Short On when hit and reset, pressure pads are On While Weighted, and levers are an On/Off Toggle. Wires made of red dust (copper?) carry signals from devices.  Also, apparently tracks can be switched now too, by hooking switches/wires up to a track junction. I wonder if you can shoot Levers with a bow to toggle them... if so, I might need to build a target practice track that requires you to hit a series of levers with your bow, or spills you and your minecart into a magma pit. :P

Some crafty trap ideas I've seen so far:

1) Autolocking Trap Chamber: Since any wire being stepped on breaks the circuit, build an obsidian hall, and use an "Always On" torch -> tripwire line -> metal doors at entry/exit: Invader steps on wire, and breaks the circuit, the Always On signal is interrupted, the metal doors seal and can't be opened, and the prisoner is trapped. Cue whatever flood, sand-fall, or other nefarious device you wish.

2) Landmine Pitfall: Dig a 1-deep hole, and a 3x3x3 pit centered under it. Fill the top hole with TNT, and cap it with a pressure pad, which conceals it with the floor. When stepped on, it activates the TNT, causing it to fall, so the pressure pad deconstructs, and the invader falls with it into the TNT pit, and Explodes. Expensive, but effective.

Man, that sounds complicated.  I can't figure out why people are calling them "wires", because they don't seem to transmit signals to me.  At least, placing a bunch of red torches next to each other between a button and a door doesn't make the door change, which is as far as my non-engineering brain can figure out.

Hey Solifuge, mind if I try editing your RQ skins?  They're great, but I was thinking off using more subdued clothing colors, like the semi-official fan art.  Just a thing.

I dont think you are supposed to make a torch out of them, only lay a wire. I have not tryed to red ore yet so I dont know.

I really wish we could hook a lever/pressure plate/button up to a door without having to place a wire (which apparently works) or having it on the block next to it.

Red torches are not wires.
I love how, because it's INFDEV, all you have to do is walk around, and it'll generate land that has the new stuff in. Mining outposts ftw.

@taz I think it's still possible... I'll try uploading the map I'm using at the moment.

edit edit edit: INFDEV maps aren't saved as .mclevels, so I don't think it's possible.

you can share worlds, just copy the world# folder from "AppData\Roaming\.minecraft\saves" and upload it somewhere, the other person then simply has to put the world folder in the saves folder and change the number if it is allready in use.

EDIT: Taz, I just found (only) 4 units of "red stuff" if you want I can upload my save somewhere, I haven't done much on it yet though.

so, tell me: when does ruby quest make the leap into horrifying elder gods?
and how scary can those elder gods be if they're so poorly drawn?

Nope.

It's Stitches, you'll see that bundle of fun a few times, he's all the weird mutants apart from the one that comes from the mirror.
