I think Notch made red mushrooms more common in the last update.  Before, I only ever saw them underground, and brown mushrooms around low-laying trees.  Now they're both everywhere.

Anyone know if he changed the way worlds generate?  I'm not getting near as interesting world options in this version.  Not sure if it's because of the update or my texture pack (I've no idea how the latter could affect it unless there's a 'Parameters' option similar to DF that was replaced).

EDIT: okay it seems to work now.

I am playing minecraft with some oblivion music and it fits quiet well.

Is there a way to easily acquire resources? I want to get mine carts and tracks simply and easily without needing to gather a ton of resources.

Is it me or do coal 'veins' have like 12 a go and iron 3-4? I've not found more than 4 in one single iron vein, although iron seems to be in close proximity to coal alot of the time

Iron is much smaller.

I'd like to see the size of all veins increase exponentially as you go lower. It would make mine shafts with carts more plausible.

I'd like to see ores take up individual inventory slots, actually, then allow them to stack in minecarts. It'd give carts a use while preventing spelunkers from bringing back hundreds or iron ores in a cave dive.

That would be extremely frustrating, but is probably a good idea none the less.

The only problem is you need iron to make the tracks (and I guess the mine car?  Haven't made either).  So you'd be SOL for your first 12 or so iron that you need.  It'd be nice if there was a wooden alternative option that went slower, much like with the standard tools.

If you just want to mess around with the new features then NBTedit is what you're looking for. It allows you to edit your inventory. Everything you need, or links to everything, can be found in that post. One caveat though, some blocks don't work in infdev and I'm not sure what will happen if you add them to your inventory so stick to things you are sure you can get in infdev.

I used this recently to carry a load of stuff collected on a  previous world over to my current one, I couldn't live without caves but dislike having to start up again and again whenever the world gen is updated.

Having ore not stack outside of a mine cart would make smelting a huge pain in the ass. And I mean huge.

Unless you could connect the smelter to the minecart...

Good point, but I still don't think that would give people any new incentive to use mine carts for mining. As it is now most of us simply build a bunch of smelters underground when we need to clean up. Of course having a cart next to you would speed the transfer up, in the end it'd just be adding a big unnecessary hassle to the whole event. You wouldn't really need mine cart tracks as you could just carry the cart around in your inventory and place it down next to the smelters when needed, then pick it up again and carry on.

Which wouldn't make much sense either. If you can't carry stacks of ore around, how can you carry a cart around that does carry stacks of ore around?

I'm totally over analyzing this I know, but I'm pretty bored.  ::)

I can only imagine they don't let you carry things in the minecart when you're carrying it. Most games prevent you from putting bags within bags within bags.

Oh I know, I just meant on a logical level. I.E. "Hey you can't carry a stack of two iron ore because it's too spacious, but you can carry around a massive (empty) mine cart in a single slot!"

I'm being petty so it doesn't matter much.

Collapsable minecarts, perhaps?

Well iron ore does tend to get more common the deeper you go, until you get to lava level, then its gold and diamonds, but very rarely diamonds
