I just started a new world. Wandered around a bit.
Found a hole in the ground, which goes down at least 30 blocks in your average 1 block stairs formation.
Yes, that's right. I have a natural tunnel from the surface into what I assume is a massive network of caves.
AWESOME.
However I have yet to asplore.
And I love the performance update because now I get more than 10 fps and thus can actually play :P

Also, since the pig thing has been CONFIRMED, what's the craft combo for it?

Unkown, possibly uncraftable. Only reason I say that is because by this time somebody would have found the recipe and posted it in the comment section, which I have yet to see; but who knows.

Oooh...will probably start a new world tonight to take advantage of the new fun stuff.

By the by is there a way to use the custom textures WITHOUT using the hacked client?  I'd imagine we won't be able to login to multiplayer with a client that allows you to speedhack, fly, etc.

I checked the comments. Apparently it's a lootroom item.

Cool! But we really have to generate a new world for new stuff to appear?
I mean...I worked SO HARD last night. Oh God..

To use custom textures, open the minecraft.jar file and replace those inside. It should be in your %temp% folder. Check here for details. (old but still same process, pretty sure same thing for MP)

Also, besides the realistic texture pack Taels texture pack is pretty nice too.

And make a backup of the textures you use, they will be overwritten when Notch updates.

2.

There are some new features in the map gen, I also found some caves/holes/biig holes around.
Now I'm building a small tunnel network connecting my "HQ" (where I store stuff, actually), to all the caves I find etc..
On the other map I was playing a more "Settlement" kind of game, now I'm doing more exploration...and it's really nice!

Especially now that Notch is working full-time on it. Seriously, it's been getting a half-dozen new features every week (and that's excluding failed experiments like the new file system).
