My farm was set up in such a way that seeds and wheat that popped away from me landed into the irrigation channel.  And the irrigation channels were all set up to flow into one centralized tile.  After harvesting I could just go to that tile and collect everything that fell into the water all at once instead of having to trample the crops or swim after them.

Not a very complex or impressive system.  But it shows the feasibility of such a setup for collecting items when a known appearance location is present.  Of course you do have to know when the items drop, or else they could just evap before you check the tile.

Could you share some screenshots of this setup?

Yes, you should always apply more magma.

That's cool, I tried to make the same thing but I stopped after I saw wheat dropping in the water and vanishing.
Seeds though don't 'vanish' like wheat..
Maybe I'm wrong? hmm

It honestly feels like a lot of their problems came from the fact that their entire team was composed of cats, and the people who were supposed to be herding them were also cats.

The origonal one was in a screwing around world.  The farm was a ways away from the spawn and I never was able to find it again.

The fortress I posted earlier however (the one with the magma on the roof) has a smaller one under the pictured glass ceiling that I can show you.

Yes the greenhouse is made of wood.  It was made before the rest of the fortress.  The stone fortress just grew to envelop it.

EDIT2: Oh yea, I forgot to mention how it works.  2 water springs (created by buckets) on each side of the farm create a flow as it expands into the neiboring tiles.  The flows both eventually meet at the end of the stone walkway, and that is where all the loose items end up.  The original was 4 times this large, but it was basically just made of 4 of this design.  With 2 collection points.

EDIT: That's odd, none of my wheat ever vanished when it hit the water.  Bug maybe?

Alright so when I said "flying pigs" I was being facetious, but I've literally discovered flying pigs.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

This big enclosed canyon is where I chose to settle. In the morning/mid-day of the time cycle, I'll randomly hear this "OINK".. I look behind me and what do I see? I see pork slabs. Everywhere. Just a minute ago I saw a pig falling from the sky before my very eyes, smashing into the ground.

So these pigs are spawning up on the cliffs and falling down, turning into cuts of pork. Best. Spot. Ever.

I know I'm a little late, but I'll just leave this here.

Well... I broke into hidden fun stuff.  So I did a very dwarven thing. (after the somewhat undwarven task of making a chest and sticking all my stuff into it)

I jumped in.

Results were predictable.

Then I placed a spring to make a waterfall to allow a controlled descent.  The waterfall ceased to exist abruptly.  Results were again, predictable.  I did however learn that I very nearly submerged the map's spawn point completely in magma.  Only one tile away, that would have been unfortunate.

So did you just find a very deep shaft or does mine craft have actual bottomless pits?

I managed to dig a route through the adminium.  It's pseudo randomly placed now, and passible sections of regular stone exist.

Pretty much identical to what's under the map in indev on floating maps.

indev and infdev are different. You want infdev.

Heh, thought so.

So I haven't checked in here for a while.
Is there a way to use the client for infdev?
Is there currently a B12 server up somewhere?
How does I shot web?
