I always put torches on the opposite side of a block from the direction I came from, and make sure to put torches at intersections.

That's a really good idea.  The new tracks may also help with the issue, but are probably expensive too (haven't played with them yet).

6 Iron bars for 16 track pieces is sorta expensive. Its infdev though, there are infinite resources to be found :)

Pics or it didn't happen!
I'll do you one better.

Its really not as impressive as it sounds. Maybe the end of the world is really high at that point, or something, because its not really that deep.

That mineshaft used to be a small underground river I made, I think it was cooler then, myself.

If the minecarts are made rideable and we get lever operated changeable tracks we need to be able to shoot them with the bow while we ride down into our mines. It only seems right that it be possible.

Here's a fairly deep natural shaft I found.  Some may have found deeper but this is the deepest I've found yet.  Top picture is standing at the top looking down (before exploration) and the bottom is the bottom looking up.  Same torch in both pictures at the very top.

This picture is when I realized how freaking extensive the cave systems are.  I'd been following this particular cave system for quite some time and finally was running low on health (skeleton got to me) so I decided I'd better go back.  Then I realized I had no freaking clue where back was, as I'd taken so many twists and turns, so I just went up and built a new outpost.  Waited for night to come so I could find my way back to my home base and, finally, there it was, off in the distance.

Thing is, those lights aren't actually the base, they're just the perimeter torches I laid down just in case I had to find the base again for some reason (good thinking, me).   The actual house isn't even visible here.  Thus, I shall now construct a large lighthouse, so as to be seen from miles.

Ehh, it's not all *that* effective.
Things like to be tall.
This is my house as seen from just before the bridge on the road headed to the left on the map above.

Yes, I made that lava-fall.  It actually flows from beneath the house/tower, over to where you see it fall here, then another several tiles past that, which aren't visible here.

Hmm... For that lighthouse, how long does wood take to burn completely? How about coal?

Well the infdev versions with all the goodies are not multilayer, so as far as I know you won't be playing with any friends on the  "good" versions for quite some time. But it's still good single player, and it's still good in the smaller multilayer versions! Not hatin!

But I'll repeat what I said earlier; I don't see the point of mine carts UNLESS he plans to expand on them greatly and/or related activities, such as (obviously) mining and tunneling. Am I the only one who thinks they're pretty useless right now? They are kind of fun to play around with I must admit. Expensive, but fun.

I don't have a very good gamesense when it comes to burning things yet, but I'd give it a good 15-20 minutes to burn down completely depending on what is inside. And it'd be glorious. Coal on the other hand can't be stacked up so I'm not sure what you are asking there, in a stove it would take a LOOOONG time to burn. I don't think coal deposits burn either.
