Infdev, dawg.  You want Infdev.

It would probably be less confusing to new buyers if Notch just put an Infdev link on the Minecraft page, instead of having to hunt for a link in his blog.  It's not really harder, but misleading.

Im gonna be getting this game as soon as the computer is fixed; for a while now ive been playing on a multiplayer server. Its pretty damn awesome, but the pretty pictures yall are posting make me want this game D:

Also, can someone post the links to those awesome former bay12 servers?

EDIT: For that matter, does anyone even run bay12 servers anymore?
EDIT2: Oh wait, here they are (the old servers)

For the record, those are Reasonableman's archives of the servers.
The actual servers are long-since gone.

I got out of that cave, unsurprisingly, by the way I came in.
I left because I used up my 400-odd torches.
Not because I ran out of stuff to explore.

Alright I'm having a bit better time with the game now.  I dug down under my house and found a vast cavern network.  Been exploring that a bit and have found gold, diamonds, and the normal coppery stuff (iron?  It's copper in the blocks but turns to an ironish color when smelted).  Got ganked once and died, then fell to my death once (and died).  Never did find the corpses.

How do y'all go about charting the depths?  I put torches everywhere, which shows where I've been, but no real clear progression of 'this is how to get back'.   I was thinking of carving arrows in the wall or doing sign posts (but those are expensive).   Any better ideas?  So far I've just gotten lucky and stumbled upon my entrance.

Holy damn minecarts. And the tracks work decently well. Can't ride in them, but resources can be placed inside.

 Glorious.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Carts and tracks, if anyone wanted to see them. The image of the cart changes depending on how full it is, too. It can be pushed around outside tracks, too, but I would only recommend doing that to change it from one set of tracks to another, its not the easiest thing to control.

I just finished my Dwarven minecart express, it goes way, way waaaay down, right to a pool of endless lava, where I fill up buckets and buckets, put it on the cart, and push it up, up, right back up to the surface, through a lake, and then I unload it all up there.

Seeing how much space I have in my inventory, I really dont need to do this ever, but it was still fun.

I always put torches on the opposite side of a block from the direction I came from, and make sure to put torches at intersections. That, and I channel to extend underground rivers, which helps when navigating back up; they make good landmarks, and always flow along the most direct up/down path.

The mine carts and tracks look really awesome (I love how the tracks will automatically change direction depending on what track they're connected to). However, are they really necessary at this point? I mean usually it's just easier (not as fun I imagine, but easier) to haul your load up in your inventory. I've never once had a problem with inventory space when mining.

So this must mean that he might tweak the inventory system, or ore system, right? Maybe? Again I see no practical use for the carts right now. Would be pretty fun to ride them though.
