I was rather dissapointed to make my first cube of Obsidian, only to have it be nigh-impossible to break (took about a minute of continual mining), and once I did, found out that it didn't yield any resources. There's a chance that an Iron Pick isn't enough to mine it properly, but I was still rather disappointed.

I did however have a rather harrowing Cave Adventure... fell into a sinkhole in the middle of the forest, got washed away by the current of an underground river, off a waterfall, and down into the depths. Had to navigate by the light of magma until I found coal, and used what poles  had to craft torches and digging tools. I redirected a Magma flow to light the tunnels and shafts, and eventually battled my way back to the surface, only to find a bunch of spiders lurking on the sand causeway that lead to my island cabin. Half beaten, and with only a wooden pole, I played Spider Baseball, knocking them back every time they lept for me, until I made it back, slammed the door shut, unloading the goods of my adventures.

I started the fire on a tree that that natural waterfall behind me was completely covering...
It shouldn't have spread.
But it did.
And now it's out of control.
Okay, so some tricky manipulation of the map visualizer proved me wrong.
That fire was, as expected, completely controlled by the waterwall.
The fire from the LAVA FLOW FROM THE HILL ON THE OPPOSITE SIDE OF THE VALLEY was not, though.

Diamond picks have been tested. Obsidian does not grant resources.

Obsidian is a "for the future" kind of thing; it will eventually be the only block capable of floating, and as such will be the base of all floating things not directly connected to the mainland.

A few days ago, I was thinking about how eventually, unsupported tiles will collapse. I was thinking how neat it would be to have floating islands be able to float because they are affixed to a floating "core". In multiplayer or versus, you could sap a floating island by destroying their core. Could make for an interesting competition too if, say, both teams were suspended on floating islands over a magma sea.

But yeah, it seems like he already had something of the sort in mind. Where'd you get this info?

It would be even better for my planned survival map. But unless I can get a map editing program that can copy and paste 3D space, it likely won't ever be completed.

Cave turned out to be very shallow. At least it has a coal vein though.

Yeah, mountains seem to have a lot of those places where the ground above makes an overhand that looks like a save. The only real caves are around ten blocks wide or smaller. Still, saves are a lot more awesome now that they can have rather large open spaces.

I suppose the question about floating obsidian would be, would you have to build an anchored form for magma casting up whereever it is you want to build your new island?

Can creepers damage obsidan? TNT Explosions?

'Cause if not, then obsidan suddenly has a use!

So basically like the core system in CloudScream?
