That does look good and I'm glad to see it doesn't always snow in cold climes.

Yay! Now when are they going to implement moving blocks like pistons?

Found an elaborate cave system that's almost directly under the surface, and has( or rather had) iron, coal, tin, copper, water, and magma. Wheeee~!

Also, a chunk of uranium or two.

Achievement notification looks very intrusive, immersion-breaking.  I hope I can turn that shit off.  Else that'll be my first MC mod ever.

And I hope they are global, not per-world.

IC hint: switches can safely combine HV lines!

I think I really lucked out with my very first IC house. I used 4 solar collectors, 1 windmill, 2 HVs and 1 MFE (without crystals and 1 switch to power 3 macerators, 3 electric furnaces, 2 extractors, 2luminators, a compressor and a tinning machine. The only cable loss I think I should have from a line longer than 8 is in the HV line that runs from (y) 66 to 102.

Of course, I adopted two wolves, crashed and suddenly have 8 wolves. C'mon Mojang, didn't the kittens in dwarf fortress teach you anything? ;) Next time I crash I might end up with 32 wolves. If you dislike swimming through Minecraft water then you really don't want to try it in water diluted with a large tame wolf pack. I kind of wanted an excuse for a new world anyway because I have 28 MB of save file and only that one small base. I've already found a great spot in the new world.

 Alright, so the next update:

The achievements system could turn into a very helpful tutorial system in a pinch. After achieving something it would award you a recipe for something you'll need to make eventually. So say after harvesting some amount of wheat and/or making some amount of bread it unlocks an achievement that shows you the recipe for cake. If you already know it you can ignore the feature completely, but if you want to play the game without having to read the wiki you can go through that system to figure out every recipe in the game.

I can't install mods for some reason D:

Whenever I try to install them, Minecraft blackscreens and fails.
(Yes, Modloader is installed. Yes, I deleted Meta-Inf too.)

Does anyone know any boat mods? I built a fairly large galleon-like thing, and I'd like to make it sail.

It has been suggested many times, yet is currently impossible to make any vehicles too much larger or more accessible than the current boat system. There isn't any good way of moving large masses of blocks around that would fit the idea of being on such a vehicle.

I could see ships being handled like small worlds of their own. A 3D array of blocks which are fixed relative to one another but which are not fixed to the same grid as the world map. The blocks of the ship and of the world map would have to interact and the player would have to interact with both. When converting part of the world map into a ship I'm not sure how it would know where the edges of the ship were. Being able to tell if a ship could float is another matter entirely. My inexperience with this kind of thing is likely blatant for all to see.

While there is no -GOOD- way of doing it, there is -A- way of doing it.

I'm guessing you were asking me. I usually just take over a cavern by spamming torches on the floor and eventually make it down to lava where you have a chance to find all the varieties of ore. I also don't waste them on iron or diamond tools; except the IC mining drill gets 3 diamonds and I need one iron pickaxe to get redstone, diamonds, lapis lazuli and gold. 8 tree blocks can make you a stack of of sticks which will make for 32 picks

If I get really frustrated I'll just cut out a half-step stairway down to the lava lake level,  pressing F3 shows y: 12.62, and then I'll just go in a straight line cutting out a 3 or 4 high path until I find a lava lake or cavern. I enjoy cutting the stone away from lava lakes and building down there and I find a modest amount of rare things around lava lakes but if you really want to mine for results then read this (possibly outdated alpha) thread:
