The Matrix gives me rolling hills, a desert, an ocean, forests in the distance. Pumpkins, cacti, and reeds.

Decent starting spot, looks fairly realistic. Hmm...appropriate, I suppose.

What will Pedobear do?
Pedobear starts by a mountain that has bare rock on the hill. That's right, bare rock going up hill. It also has a nice desert nearby and a great archipelago with arcs and cool formations.

I think I will keep it.

Bay12 does produce a semi-badass bay in the general vincinity of the start point.

I find ToadyOne and ThreeToe are very much alike at first. In both, you embark on a large beach with several islands in sight, but that's where the similarities stop.

ToadyOne on the one hand doesn't seem all that interesting on the surface, you have to explore the map a little to see the good stuff. I ventured off in a random direction, and found a massive mountain that had a long natural tunnel all the way through it, and that was connected to a second mountain by an extremely long and wide natural land bridge. Both mountains had large sprawling overhang areas that were populated by monsters of various kinds. Also lots of surface coal.

ThreeToe on the other hand, is full of squid. Tons of squid all over the place at embark. Exploration discovered truly massive mountains stretching through the clouds surrounding a sparsely forested valley, and many islands that remained unexplored. All and all, plenty of resources to be discovered in those massive mountains, or fortresses to be dug.
Edit; Also, found a magmafall in ThreeToe somewhere near the aforementioned mountains.

After reading posts about people using their online pseudonyms as seeds I got curious and tried my own.
SP2 was slightly interesting, and my other pseudonym Paulonymous had a few lava pools on the surface. Now SP2onymous is very interesting, so I'll let the pictures do the talking.

Warning: these are at 1680x988.

Going to explore some more now.

I've decided to put the new seed feature to work to illustrate how deceiving distances are in the game!

The Minecraft Marathon Challenge

1 Start a world with the seed "Marathon"
2 Make your way 40.195 km (~26 miles) east (any x, z < -41,810.5)
3 If you win then brag about your time, difficulty, cheats and mods. 8)
Started at x,z -176,167 at just before 10 AM, on normal.
Spent first half hour obtaining a diamond pick and some obsidian.
Built a nether gate at 10:45 AM.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Blackscreen crash while bridging lava, reloaded in empty space and fell in lava, InvEdited back gear and started off again.

At z -800, almost one fifth of the way to the reentry point (z -5000) as of 11 AM, progressing slow due to precautions against black screen crashes.
At z -1600 as of 11:30 AM, returning to burrowing through the netherrack, despite having to save every four steps to mitigate black screen crashes.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Laptop overheating, will have to continue later. Uploading screens...

And yes, I know it's sort of subverting the idea of the marathon, but I'm starting to think this is going to be more difficult and time consuming than running it on the surface...

Itnetlolor did "Dwarf", there's a map a few pages back.

Nist Akath and Boatmurdered are so far very disappointing maps, though I haven't had much of a look around.

But then, life was also easier when I was running around here pretending to be a man, so I guess I should just "man up" and get back to work.
