Yes, but only when the terrain generation algorithms are changed.

(E.g. to add a new ore block like Lapis.)

At first I thought this was silly since you spawn in a different place every time you enter the seed, but I think you're limited to spawning somewhere in the same initial chunk because I found this whole place really fast.

In the "Dwarf" world there's a long series of thin, connected islands about 4-5 blocks wide.

...I can't wait to map this place.

Can you enter seeds in SMP servers when they start? I guess you could always just use a SSP world as the world folder.

 Seeds produce the same worlds in the same version, you just spawn in a random location within a 100x100 distance from 0,0.

 And the new client is only buggered for some people. Mine has given me no issues whatsoever.

Over in the game's forums, there has been some commotion over the seed "Glacier" (no quotes) which is guarenteed to produce an initial chunk full of ridiculous anomolies such as:

1) One tile wide mountains starting 8 tiles off the ground and ending in the clouds
2) Regular mountains (but huge) with gigantic holes in them ending ABOVE the clouds
3) Natural bridges between mountains
4) Floating islands
5) Lots and lots of natural resources above ground

and so on.

May I also suggest the seed -11; this seed is pure amazing. The landscape may not be as alien as Glacier, but it is sure fucking fantastic.

Those are both quite interesting!

I just made a world using my username as a seed. Not incredible like those, but the spawn point is pretty nice and has some neat caves right nearby.

You also get 1-2 sandstone at the bottom of nearly every pile of sand. I think that's new to Beta 1.3 but I'm not sure.

I've noticed that too. Makes it much easier to reasonably get sandstone.

Putting in my  username got me what seemed like nothing special, until I climbed a mountain and found that the world was on fire.

A wide, tree-filled valley, with two waterfalls, a heart-shaped pool, and two lava falls. Caves in the mountain sides, and coal visible.

There is a new lighting engine.

Well, new in the sense that it utilizes the AO mod. I dunno if it's been improved and fixed at all. Looks snazzy though, so whatever.
