Is anyone else having severe lag when loading previous saves?  I just tried playing with my ongoing game, and no chunks were loading except the one I was standing in, and the FPS looked like it was around, well, 1.

Re-asking this, because I'm really wondering what the Hell happened to this game.  I just made a new map (frozen biome, sweet), and it doesn't lag as bad, but it's still horribly choppy, and the adjacent chunks don't load until I'm almost on top of them.

Damn it! I found some kind of white ore that *might* be the rare thing, but I didn't have a good enough pick at the time and now I can't remember where it was.

Wow. My performance went from almost too good to unplayable choppiness. WTF, man? W.T.F.

Sucks to be you, doesn't it? :P

I wonder what that new rare thing is though.

Makes two three of us.

Nobody ever pays attention to me.  Except when they do.  Notch has to be aware of it by now though.

Were you using a pack? If not, then it is at least something new. If you were using a pack, it might have been iron.

I've heard of that ore. It's really rare, yeah, and you can smelt it into this metal called trollbait.  :P

Biag's just providing an example of crazy, made-up theories.

Besides, there's no new tiles in the tileset .png file.

It would have been a crazy, made-up theory if I hadn't seen it with my own eyes. Remember, these are the Bay12 forums, not Minecraft; this is a likeable community.

D'oh, though, Breadbocks is probably right. Haven't seen iron in this new pack yet. :P Although damn, I still wish I knew where it was. I could use some iron.

My performance issue has been mostly resolved by changing graphics to "fast". Still not quite as smooth as before, but fine as it is. The forums are full of a bunch of asshats who sling insults at anyone who has a performance issue when they don't. I run Battlefield Bad Company 2 at full throttle with all bells and whistles, I worked as an IT supervisor, I think I am decently capable to understand when a piece of software is causing the issue.

on a side note, the anonymous nature of the internet allows people to act in a manner that they would never attempt in person. I like the concept of everyone having to use their real name on the internet. Let's bring back the thing that makes us all polite in the real world, the threat of sudden violence as a reaction to our behavior.

I haven't noticed much in the performance drop of things (odd) but I found some iron in a map I was already playing. With the classic tileset, iron ore is still a tan color.

And I believe the term you're referencing is GIFT. There is a bit of a setback though with that thought. Not all will convert to that so easily, and a good, if not, great portion will make aliases in order to continue the same GIFT behavior regardless.

The rare thing is apparently a Deadmau5 skin. Source, and Notch's twitter confirmation linked from there. No mystery ore.
