Sheer terror.  Blocks are mining and unbuilding themselves.  As I logged off a server I heard my door surrounded by zombies opening.  Swords are ineffective at best.  The air will kill you randomly.  I think Herobrine is in.

Edit:  Turn difficulty above Peaceful to see hostiles.

Sigh... I wish this would die.

I don't even know what it is...
In short, it's a mob that can build like the player can, is pretty much invincible, and runs away from you. It's also the subject of a creepypasta wherein "Herobrine" is Notch's dead brother - which we don't know if he even has brother, much less if he's alive or dead. Oh, and Herobrine looks exactly like the default skin, except that he has no pupils. Ooo, scawy, I know.

Yes, it's very stupid. The creepypasta isn't even very good. It's one of the ones that you read before bed, go "Well, that would be strange.", turn out the light, and sleep peacefully.

Bah, killjoys. Who's for building a huge wall and filling the inside with torches and towers? Or perhaps emergency panic bunkers.

You shOuld try to Understand it with the help of the wiki first. Nobody rEally takEs it for real, granteD notch said he'd implement it. Too little is knOwn to be really creepy. Well, As my humble opinion, you could taKe him Exactly out of what was described, and seeing him would be scary. Understand, I have a corruPted opinion.

Just joined a server.  Mass panic occurs as night falls and everyone has no stuff.

This is good news.

It is indeed stupid, but I remember being swatted upside the back of the head by air until I had only half a heart left.  It seems like some people were complaining about players becoming invisible on death, but I'm not sure about that.  If that were the cause of the problems, that would mean an invisible player had snuck into my house and watched me work for a bit, then mined out a random bit of wall and a bit of dirt roof.  Some other weird glitch had to be causing it, and Herobrine seemed to describe all the weirdness pretty well.  Hopefully this gets fixed soon.

That's disturbing.
So much so it seems to have crashed Minecraft. Is the site down?
