happens sometimes to me too. Some sort of polygon errors. I was beginning to fear that my graphics card is failing.

In my experience that type of glitchy misplacement of verticies is a good sign of a dying graphics card.

I've had my 4870 for months, not years. I dunno.

Maybe the drivers, so lessee if it'll help when AMD releases some new ones.

Then again, I've had it crash so perhaps it is failing.

I'll probably get myself a new GPU soon. Maybe Christmas.

If it is crashing and glitching like that, it sounds like a heat issue, rather than an age issue.  Consistent high heat can damage a card and cause it to fail early.  I'd check and see how hot your case is getting.  It could very well be something else, I just know that my cards have died within a year of this starting to happen.  It got progressively worse over time until my entire screen would descend into a madhouse of flickering polygons and broken textures seared across the screen

My card has an idle temp of 48 and a peak of around 75. That doesn't sound too bad.

I do have a lot of airflow, but there's a mess of wires blocking the lower intake fan. Maybe I'll clear that up sometime.

I really seriously hope that that is Fahrenheit...

That [Magma] is a bit deep down there, don't you think?
You really aren't thinking like a dwarf.

If you think it is down too far, you move it up until it reaches an acceptable elevation.

It's not, but those temp ranges are fairly standard for video cards, I thought.

Quote from some other guy in some other forum because everyone on the internet is a reliable source.
Quote
below 100°C is fine, gpus are engineered to work at up to 120°C. the reduced lifespan from higher temperature might make a difference if you plan to use it for 10 years or so

And the very next post was yet another guy awarding him with some form of points for being awesome.

75 shouldn't be bad for your card.

I have had a card that idled at 72. An nVidia 7800 back when those were awesome. 'Course it was busted, because the other idled at 50. :P

My ATI 5800 idles at 47°C and as Tylui says it's typical and nothing to worry about.

Indeed. Most ATI HDxxxx cards have such temps and are designed to work at temps of up to 100oC.

my 7900 starets automatically slowing down when it reaches 100.

I know this because my fan is broken.

My 4870 is overclocked and has the same temperatures (retail cooler), lakes are fine. ^^ Using Catalyst 10.8

Still working on my 32x32 texture pack.

.png copy

I've been trying something new with the dirt blocks.
http://i53.tinypic.com/1z2281k.jpg

Still to do:
Cobweb
Sapping - Just can't get it to look right
Wheat - Not really tried yet, still not certain how to do it

WIP:
Dirt - Trying different things
TNT - Fuses are so so
Bookcase
Sponge
Tilled dirt wet/dry
Snow
Lit pumpkin - Needs highlights on face

Unfortunately I don't think the higher res fix works yet with the latest version. I am running in offline mode until I hear otherwise so I can keep working on it.

Woah. Deadmau5 (electronic music producer) is working together with C418 (composer of the current music in Minecraft) to create some new tracks for the game.
This makes me happy.

It does.
The watch and the portals are broken --

But everything from prior to the Halloween update, save BetterGrass, which is awful because of the biome coloration, is working properly with the 1.1.7 version of the patcher.

Edit: My drill is complete!
