New sport: ghast fishing!

Fishing lines will pull ghasts extremely effectively! Can you become a master ghast angler?

Edit: Hellz yeah, I got one! Brought into melee range with the fishing rod, then hit to death with my iron sword before it could get away.  8)
I refuse to believe that this is a ligitimate strategy. Say, seeing as Ghasts are incorpreal, do they do contact damage? If they don't, do they phase through the player as well?
Dunno, they just sort of float around, and typically try to get away ASAP after being brought close. Also, it is a legitimate strategy. After all, it isn't the sword alone that kills it, but rather the pure power of sheer awesome associated with fishing for an incorporeal being, catching one, and then merely finishing it off with a few well timed strikes.

Also, I can confirm that trees can indeed grow in the Nether provided they are given soil and light. It just takes awhile. As for the trees, the leaves are almost as brown as the trunk. Apparently the Nether is a very dry place.

Er.... Do the zombie pigmen stay hostile forever after you attack them?

You know, minecraft is already a pretty scary game. But now its terrifying. The screams of hell, the tortured fabric of the world sprouting more spacetime rents into hell at whim, the tortured souls that spew fire/oink. All we need now is Herobrine to show up and....wait a tick, didnt Notch say he might get in at some point?

I was doing some crafting gates in Nether, and in the process of a hidden one in an artificial cave I was working in, I had some oinkers sneak in before I could finish. Fortunately they were neutral at the time but still, C'MON!!!

In any other case, I found a nice new use for the flambeite (red cobblestone (I like the name I gave it. It has style)). Olympic torches. Not as stylish as a magma lighthouse, but you can still see a properly made one a fair distance away. It'll be put to good use at gateways when locating them.

My terminology is effective.
Hellfire -- You know, it's red, and it stays on fire.  Not like it acts like anything that's real anyway.
Slowstone -- It might not be a stone.  But if you run across it, you go slow.
Lanternite -- This is a good one.  It will undoubtedly be used for lanterns once they're implemented, and the name sounds cool too.  So much better than "brittle gold" that is neither brittle nor gold.  The name on the Wiki is currently "Lightstone", and that just sounds terrible.

Actually, slowstone behaves like a rock. Gets mined by a pick.

Personally, I like Luminite or Lucifite (seeing as they have light as part of their etymology) for the glowing blocks.

Lucifite (Based on Lucifer) seems more fitting oddly since Lucifer originally meant "Light Bearer"; plus, considering where this crap is located, Why not?

I know, right? But it's not too bad. A few curtains over here, a couple throw pillows over there. The neighbors also seem rather friendly too. Not a bad place to colonize.

I JUST PUNCHED A GHASTS FIREBALL AT IT WITH MY BARE HANDS.

Still died due to fire though.

EDIT: Also, remember that arrows shot through lava become flaming, allowing you to attack more effectively and light up hard to reach areas.

Unless he's changed things recently, flaming arrows are purely cosmetic; they don't light up anything, and they deal no extra damage.

While watching a minecraft live stream, i noticed someone figured out that hitting the Ghast's flaming ball attack can be bounced back at the ghast just like the boss fight against Gannon in the Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. But obviously, very difficult to do... And apparently the Nether Mud causes your view to sink slightly when you step in it; but you probably won't notice this if you have view bobbing turned on. Turn view bobbing off, and then sidestep back and forth between the mud and a normal tile, and you'll see it.

Finally, never, EVER enter the Nether with the minimum fog distance.
You will get shot at by Ghasts and NEVER see them.

I dunno if this is server lag, but you have to touch fire for several seconds before being lit up. That's cool.

Hasn't it always been like that? Lava, yes, that's instant pants on fire, but i seem to recall just nudging fire in the older versions and not becomeing a towering inferno myself.

Here's the IP for the future Stone City:

92.17.202.8:25565

It's just a normal map right now. We run these mods:

  • Hey0's Server Mod
  • Llamacraft
  • Runecraft
  • Cuboid
  • Some more that I forgot!

IT IS BACK UP.

Sadly, there are no mods.

Please don't grief us.
