he said that he would change grass texture according to biome, so the transition should be much less sudden in the future.

I actually think the transitions are fine. From what I'm seeing in the picture.
Remember, this is a world made of blocks, with that kind of attitude you could accuse the 90 degree angles being too sudden of a transition.

Is that a sandy desert mountain I see in the distance?

The biomes look really weird, some of the transitions are too sudden and they look too small.
I too hope the biomes are at least big enough so that you can travel some distance without seeing anything but the biome your in. Perhaps he has them set to be smaller for the sake of testing?

I think the mountain is supposed to be tundra, he hasn't made it change the elevation yet so it just replaces the block types, leading to some very... interesting things.

Actually, Notch said he thought that was a tundra. I thought it was a desert too, though.

Bear in mind that he hasn't implemented elevation changes yet, that's up next. So yes, it could be a massive mountain of sand. I can just see the terrain generator placing massive overhangs of suspended sand , just waiting for an unwary adventurer to stand beneath it and mine something...

I definitely want to see biomes take some effort to cross, so that venturing into HFS space is useful.

DING!

I just realized, it should be really, really easy to make a mod that forces the world generator to make only linear, ring-world-like terrain!

All it would need to do is edit the saved world file to add the wall and the blank spaces past that, and save them, in a radious around all generated world tiles. Then, when you come to the edge of your explored section, it'll automatically fill in the places that you haven't visited yet, but NOT the ones that where saved by the external utility!

Of course, it wouldn't change HFS space, so you would naturally have to be careful when you are there not to deviate from course and step out over the void...

of course, you'd replace the sun and moon with a graphic like the day and night side of the ring, since they pass overhead... hmm...

Indeed he did, as stated on his twitter.

All rage about them being small and sudden is gone. :)

I'm finally getting myself to stop looking at comments in certain situations.  Notch's blog may have been what gave me the last push. Either that or Youtube.

The moment the lever was pulled, somebody's pet kitten stepped onto the bridge. I read somewhere that if a cat falls more than 11 stories, it instinctively flares its legs out to increase air resistance. This slows it down enough to stick the landing with relatively minor injuries. In Dwarf Fortress, apparently, cats don't do that.

These damn Creepers just won't quit! Last sunrise, I went outside and two of them bombed my base at the same time! It took me the rest of the day to fix all that! I'll never make an Obsidian Gate by the 31st at this rate.

What you see on those comment threads is the 0.1% of the communitiy that can't keep their mouths shut. Judging by the fact that it's the same hundred-odd trolls and morons each time, plus my insightful comments, it's actually rather heartening to compare it to the thousands or tens of thousands of minecraft fans that read the blog every day, especially when you consider that about half of any national election (any national one, since it's rare for any national politician to get more than, oh, 60% of a vote in the most extreme cases) consists of trolls anyway. After all, there can only be one correct policial stance.

But that's for a different thread. Point is, 0.1% of the people, the exact same ones who post, are the morons.
