Was the door on the INSIDE-facing side of the square, or the outside-facing one? If the creeper could get inside the square, it could see you through the door, and might have been close enough.

That might have been it. Hard to say for sure, since the door was blown up by the creeper, though.

You know what we should do for the Halloween update? Make a bunch of dungeons to share. That way we can explore interesting places that we've never seen before and fight all the nasties in them.

Basically, before the update comes out (and torches are still prema-lit), dig/build a giant dungeon. Fill it with chests that have various useful loot inside. (Weapons, tools, food, armor, etc.).

Then, when the new version comes out, share the world with people. Start each person out with some small bit of armor (maybe a single leather breastplate or something), a set of stone tools, and either a flint & steel or some torches off near the entrance. From there people can go in and explore the dungeon and fight all the new monsters and whatnot that should spawn inside when all of the torches are gone.

A sound idea, but iirc Notch said all torches would convert to lanterns. I believe what he'll do is:
Reskin torches to lanterns and adjust formula
add new item with old torch skin and formula.

That would be the most efficiet method. It would also mean your idea wouldn't work.

Ah. So he is.

No big deal. Just take your torches down after you build each section. It's just a little bit of extra work during the set-up of the dungeon.

As to the tree "guarantee" ... I have counter-proof to that, but it works most of the time.

Perhaps it's something similar to how TNT hops a little to the east when it's hit or how stuff flies farther if it's launched to the west. Maybe the block should be on a certain facing.

100 pages back I think, I asked here on the forum if anyone was interested in me building a big and dangrous dungeon for people to explore but that post simply got ignored.
I was almost finished with the dungeon, it had monster spawners, chests, traps, puzzle like stuff and so on and so forth but I never uploaded it since I thought noone was interested :-\ I guess I should have preserved the save for halloween.

Calm before the storm?

Perhaps this is the calm before the storm, but I’ve got a nagging feeling I’ve just been neglecting the blog.

I am still alive, and I’m working hard. Not as hard as I should, mainly due to a cold and me having the apartment for myself this week (yay, coding in my underwear!).

We’ve signed the papers for the company, and we’ve found an office. We haven’t signed the office yet, but it’s perfect for us and as long as the owner wants us, we’ll take it. Mojang is now six people strong, three programmers, one pixel artist, one CEO and one Business Developer. It’s likely we’ll grow even more in the near future, but this will get us started nicely.

I was going to send a sneak preview of the Halloween update to a certain website last week for an exclusive preview, but I missed that date pretty bad. I will try to get that update out as soon as possible. The update is going well. There are six new block types (five of them have unique abilities), one new monster, a new dimension, and a couple of bug fixes. Once I get the portals working, I’ll have something very interesting going and I’ll spend the rest of the time leading up to the release adding new smaller features and polishing stuff.

And fixing bugs.

Woooooooooo! It's getting close :P

Weeeell... the new axis is only two blocks long, and there's apparently some distortion. You could make a sort of hypercube by building a 10x10x10 cube in the normal world, and a single cube in Hellperspace.

I kinda like the idea of having a third dimension going the other way, which is ten times the size of the normal world, allowing for buildings that are larger inside than outside.

I wonder if we'll be able to actually see through these portals... indeed, have stable passages that work like normal passages, so you could, for instance, shunt carts and flows into and out of the other dimensions,or run wires through transpatial conduits.

Such a thing would be absurdly complex, however. More likely, it'll be a couple of glowy blocks that you walk into or right-click on.

Yeah, this thread is too big. Stuff like that gets lost too easily.

I've made a new thread for Dungeoneering. Hopefully people will decide to join in!

Iirc, there was no specific scale, just "Go in, go a few meters, leave, be hundreds of meters away." So, if things are a certain way, it won't even be a constant scale. Joy?
