Also thanks for the answer, I think I'll wait a bit longer before even bothering to attempt to buy it.

Dude, it's worth the money right now.  Trust me, I play it all the time.  Especially buying it at the cheap price now, before Notch declares it "Beta" and charges more, all the updates and stuff feel even more like features, because I get to watch the game get better as I play it.  As games go, it's a purchase I recommend.

I wonder if I can buy it with a checking account... hmmm...

I just don't know... The Caves creep me out so much (almost stopped watching a letsplay while hearing it) and the enemies are nearly impossible to fight.

Though I guess there is no harm in looking it up.

Is there or isn't there going to be a magic system?

Seeing as it is nearly impossible to tell what time it is when your underground, this seems quite useful.

Torches.  Torches everywhere, and did your own mines until you have enough iron.  Shit, usually after a couple in-game days, I'm so well defended I find myself reveling in when shit goes wrong.  I was exploring this cave and got blown off a ledge by a creeper and landed in a pitch-black waterfall before finding my feet like a mile underground with almost no torches or meat, and had to dig my way back to the surface.  I said to myself, I've never felt more alive.

Just hope to God that Notch doesn't follow through on his plans to make torches burn out over time.  Sure, he's going to add lanterns or something to replace that functionality, but it's going to be one Hell of a change for long-term players.

He confirmed pocket watches. I'm happy.

Kick ass.  Even if time is completely meaningless anywhere you can't see the sky anyway.  Still, I've been wanting such a thing.

There's already Runecraft that puts in teleporters and a bunch of other magicky fun stuff. That's a community mod (I think it's multiplayer only, though), so I'd be surprised if the final game doesn't at least allow for the community to add that kind of thing. There's definitely demand for it too.

I read somewhere that if a cat falls more than 11 stories, it instinctively flares its legs out to increase air resistance. This slows it down enough to stick the landing with relatively minor injuries. In Dwarf Fortress, apparently, cats don't do that.

Are you kidding? It is already up on the soon to be released section.

Assuming it wasn't a mod I was looking for.

Edit addition: Completely misunderstood what you just said... dang... something is wrong with my reading comprehension lately.

Is there enough demand for the player/sign maps?  I could just take them back off the regular update (by commenting one line in my batch file, too) if it's not worth it.

EDIT: Soul, your walls are all cut-up in the isometric maps due to the way corner-corner interactions are currently implemented.
You might want to build up an inside block on your diagonal sections.

Sign maps are silly. Not only do they give away 'secret' signs, but they are hardly readable when two signs are near each other.

EDIT:
Player maps are also not necessary, in my humble onion.
BUT, I do really like all the other maps with the exception of map-oblique-cavemode.png it just isn't very useful, especially in comparison to the other cave maps

Notch is working on this game at a ridiculous pace. Slowing down means going to something more normal.

He actually doesn't spend very much time coding. I'd say it was a ridiculous pace for a free game or a mod, but this a full time now.

I agree with this. I'm simply not impressed with the recent changes in progress, not that my opinion matters or anything. Sure he's getting a "team" together, but we'll see just how they effect development soon enough. Or rather, later than sooner.. one of those anyway. Right now it doesn't look like he's too worried about getting the game going as much as he's worried about getting publicity, more purchases, etc. Milking it while it's slow, enjoying his new-found cash, expanding instead of advancing, etc. I don't exactly blame him for that, but it's certainly not great for the players who paid him expecting things to improve quickly. I think it's going to bite him in the ass if he keeps going at this rate.

Here's hoping that things actually get moving at some point.

Okay, I've cut the number of maps significantly.
Updates should be nice and quick again.

Hehe, just noticed the little notes people are leaving for those that look at the maps in certain views. Nothing big, mainly just people (probably mainly Jay) labeling things and writing Hi and stuff like that, but it's neat.

Also, the Thicket is more and more ridiculous (in a really good way) every time I look at it. I'm not sure if it's actually growing or if I'm just beginning to understand exactly what went into making it.

Edit: Argh. I got halfway through my little floating island thing tonight and I just got another great idea for my next project... but Jaycraft's down for maintenance and I should be asleep an hour ago. Planning time I guess. Stupid Minecraft. I almost had the habit kicked and then these maps and multiplayer dragged me back in.

Edit2: Oh jay, is there a goal for your donations? Like, amount-wise? How much a month are the types of servers you're looking at?

I just took a look at the cave map for what I recently found. Remember what I said about having explored only 1/3rd of it? Well, taking a look at the updated cavern map, this thing is indeed huge. And that is all part of one natural cave system from the surface. Apparently, if I were to breach certain calls, that number will expand from 1/3rd to 1/10th. Yeah, it's that complex.

Sure, I may not be able to make heads and tails from the map well enough, but I can tell what is what according to what I already know. Plenty of cave openings and potential magma chambers are also visible.

Considering the distances, now those checkpoint chests start showing their purpose if I intend to do long/large hauls.

I don't wanna do that because of the silly map. I'd rather have the dude who made the program actually do eet right. =p
