Where is %appdata%?
%appdata% is %appdata%. Simple... though it really doesn't fit with the way any other file path works, I'll give you that.

Go to run and type in %appdata% and hit enter or whatever, it usually should bring you there.  Then just look around.

I'm kinda tempted to just throw up a skylands server, admin some folks and then come back in a week and see the bridge building madness. I also haven't seen anyone using the runecraft mod, so if we don't have one of those I can probably provide it.

Here's runecraft if anyone is curious how the magic mod works. http://minecraftwiki.net/wiki/Runecraft (or if the wiki is down you can see the videos of it in action here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mN-WFzwuegE)

It's surprisingly well balanced. It gives gold and redstone more uses and let's people actually move around with waypoints. Personally I think that kind of thing is essential on some of these big MP maps.

Can't decide if I should do skylands + runecraft for a server or just runecraft....Gotta do something with all this extra bandwidth I have.

Alright whatever, I threw up a skylands + runecraft server at 76.26.38.52

Should be able to see the cached page of the runecraft page on the wiki if you want to play around with magic stuff.

Not sure if it was mentioned before, but Penny Arcade's Friday comic is part 1 about Minecraft, so yeah.  That's more attention to it, wow.

Jaycraft Cartograph maps updated as of now.
Also, I wrote a batch script to make updating them easier on me. :P

FFFFFFFF-

I just set foot on the Celestial Wasteland on Lap's skylands server. Two seconds later it crashes.

I can't connect to la's server anymore... and we were so close to the wasteland!
the race was fun however .

:(

is it just my problem, or did the server crash?

Server gave me an illegal op, but it's back up. I really like the teleport system and it is absolutely crucial to this map. Recall spell too.

I can see why a lot of people don't like to run this map most of the time though. Without the teleport system or working minecarts it can take forever to get somewhere. Just getting to the pyramids took you guys like an hour. That was impressive display of lava swimming and perilous bridge building.

The sheer size of the map also means the CPU usage during the day/night switch can spike through the roof. If it does get to an unbearable point though I might have to start cutting out areas. We could just cut the map into a smaller portion (like just the celestial wastes and surrounding area). If the map was switched I'd refund the stuff you may have lost. For now though, we'll see how it goes.

actually, about the lava swimming, I am not sure if myroc swam through lava. We split there, then came back together at the sand.

still, epic journey. The huge map is actually a good thing in my opinion. It may have taken an hour or more to get to the wastelands, but I surely didn't waste that hour.
And after you arrive, you build a teleporter. with just cobble, sand, dirt and wood you can get 256 different combinations. and that is without using fancy rare ones like I did. It is not like we are going to run out of combinations anytime soon.

And while I noticed some small freezes during the time I was logged in, It doesn't really matter. It is compensated by the fact that I had nearly no lag on your server. Besides, it was just a short problem.

I'm not sure how teleporters work, but it sounds like you build an "address" out of blocks. Wouldn't signs be even better? Then you get at least 999,999,999 numbered locations, or at least a few thousand different words. 'Course, you'd need to figure out how to read the signs from the database...

Yea it all comes down to whatever the coders can get at. On a positive note, the building of the teleporters really fits in with the minecraft theme and makes it so teleporting and all the other spells have an actual cost in time/resources. It really makes me sad that it sounded like Notch wasn't very supportive of mods like this.
