I'm sure you can make an unlimited obsidian generator. Although getting the diamond picks needed to mine the stuff is difficult.

Obsidian is as limited as the amount of lava vein tiles there are.

Ask some ops for it, then.

The maps are infinite so...

I vote we don't give obsidian away, it's too hard and takes a while to mine even with a diamond pick.

Fakeedit: I'm not saying you would grief but it's a real pain if you place some in the wring place.

You can create unlimited water springs by digging a 4x4x1 area and placing two source tiles in opposite corners. Perhaps you can do the same with lava?

Well, lava is glitchy, so you can clone it.

It didn't work with lava last time i tried.

And you cn make unlmimted water with a 3x1x1 ditch cant you? two water springs with a space in the middle and the game fills the empy space in with another spring. Unless thats been changed in the past week or so?

I think Mephisto meant 2x2x1, and yes, both methods work.

Yep, both methods work fine - if an non-spring tile is adjacent to two spring tiles, it becomes a spring tile itself. With the 3x1 arrangement, the centre tile is adjacent to the two edges, and so it replenishes. I consider the 2x2 arrangement safer, though, since you can remove any tile and it'll respawn. With the 3x1, removing the wrong tile can screw it up.

However, barring the use of online lag-based glitches or whatnot, lava is finite - the above system is only for H20.  :'(

My bad. I suppose I multiplied 2x2 in my head and just typed 4 instead.

Well I guess I'll stick with my plan of hauling a bucket of water down into the depths and using it to solidify lava springs for my obsidian.

I still have the worry of having pockets of magma under the obsidian layer once it's cooled though, any way of finding out how deep magma is without destroying the magma springs? I was thinking I could use the water visual glitch to see through the lava layer, but I don't know if that'll work.

Lava springs only create one block of obsidian.

Less than full lava + full water = cobblestone
Less than full water + full lava = Obsidian

Ie. A lava spring only has one full block of lava.

What you need are those lava lakes.

And obsidian doesn't give anything when broken anyways.
