Hell, I'm having a hard enough time using buckets. How the devil am I supposed to irrigate my farms?!

Buckets are broken. Water blocks are not.

Well, minecraft doesn't work on either of my comps. Am I missing something, perhaps? I've downloaded the latest JDK and JRE.

Never mind, I figured it out.

One was too craptastic to even run it, and the other didn't have the PATH variable set.

SMP, here I come!

Smelting doesn't work.
I tried to smelt every possible item I could with coal and wood for fuel and it only gets like half way then freezes the furnace.

You should all be ashamed of yourselves.  The obvious solution is to chain the baby up at the entrance as a kobold detector.

That's only for SMP, isn't it? Yeah, that's a known bug. There are a few server softwares or scripts (I'm not sure) which somewhat fix the furnace. The server I'm normally playing on runs Flippeh's script and the Llamacraft mod. I'm not sure which one of them fixes the furnaces and the buckets, but they work. Or at least the buckets do perfectly. For the furnace, you need to light a fire using a lighter on the block over it and then it works.
Although it sometimes destroys everything in the furnace (fuel, the already smelted stuff and the to-be-smelted stuff) when it changes the unit of fuel. Also, I think that the furnace destroys everything in it when it's cold, aka without any fuel. If you want to be cautious, don't leave the smelting window. For example, I wouldn't dare leave it when I'm smelting gold ore. But the destruction of stuff rarely happens, so if you're making glass or stone and take out the already smelted stuff on a regular basis, it shouldn't be too risky.

Uh...
Why, exactly?
Gold is useless.

So is that massive statue of cheese made completely out of clear glass on top of a castle in DF useful?

No...but it 'shore is purdy.

P.S. Would love it if notch had armor show up serverside next.  It's not as fun wearing solid gold armor if noone else can see it.

P.P.S.  Jaycraft up yet?

I'd be more inclined to agree with you if the only actual use for gold wasn't blocks, and those are just fugly.
Especially given that their top texture is partially the animated fire when using 32p texture packs.

I don't understand the obsession with gold armor.
It hardly DOES anything.
P.P.S.  Jaycraft up yet?
No.

can't you take 9 solid gold blocks to make a gold apple?  That's only...81 gold bars... for a single fullheal.
