And when I asked if there was a non-java alternative client, people got pissy at me.

So... Hah! There we go. <3

...well, huh. A wee bit o' drama over on the Minecraft forums.

Seems an open-source clone of Minecraft has been making some news. Besides the obvious similarities... apparently, this clone can connect to Minecraft servers.

Cue epic raeg (most recent posts are on page 3), and an attempted declaration of war.

To quoth the great philosophers of our time: "Shit just got real."
been following it for some time. It will be a little bit different (more DF like). In main page they say it will have forts mode, where NPCs will do work for you. Also crafting is already somewhat more intresting.

Clones really do upset people don't they. Until just recently I hadn't encountered the fans of a game going so crazy over this kind of thing. First, unfortunately, from here and then, more spectacularly, from the Minecraft Forums. I'd imagine this is because independent game developers having large paying or donating fanbases from early in development is a recent thing in itself.

The funny thing about this instance is that Notch has stated on his Twitter that they haven't done anything illegal, he dislikes IP rights, and that he doesn't want anyone attacking them. Yet we have topics declaring war on the forums and people vandalising the ManicDigger wiki. It is unlikely to find it's way into the press but it could only look bad for Notch / Minecraft having people trying to avenge him.

And of course all the excitement does is to send more attention towards ManicDigger anyway, thereby making it more likely that people might investigate this game for what it is.

But really, the grace with which Notch manages to operate, with all this strange behaviour from some borderline obsessive fans, is something else to behold.

I suspect if I was in his position I would have alienated half the community by now with various torrents of vile abuse directed towards anyone and everyone.

I have no idea what the fanbois are complaining about. It's like paying half price for a sandwich and then getting two! They're being retarded as hell. If anyone should complain it would be Notch and he isn't really, except mentioning it was rude and that people should stop trashing MD's wiki and calling out war.

Customers, bending over to take it in the ass since the beginning of time.

So much so that even when the person they bought something from is nice, they want to bend over and beg for it.

I can't honestly see a problem. It's a clone, sure, but it has it's own design goals.

It is also open-source and nobody is paying the developer money.

It's like paying half price for a sandwich and then getting two! They're being retarded as hell.

My thoughts exactly.

I know it's unrealistic, but I can't help but imagine little bearded babies for dwarves. In my mind, they come out of the womb fully bearded. That's how the mother carries them around, too, she just drags them around by the beard or ties it to her belt. When the father's on duty, he just ties their beards together and the baby just kind of hangs there, swinging to and fro with Urist McDaddy's movements.

Bump.  It's that time, Jaycraftland.

My server is updated with software 1.3 and Llamacraft 2.5
Do note I've removed the kits, as they were being abused.

Actually, the internet cut out.

I've determined that the issue is not within my local subrange, so there's nothing I can do to fix it.

A disturbing exccess of trees and a lack of underground works, aren't we dwarves?
Unless you plan to lure some elfs to settle in the trees and then burn it down. That's dwarven =D
