It's the same things dwarves do when deprived of booze in DF. They walk up to another dwarf and their minds explode, then they try to destroy things. After lifetimes deprived of booze, they actually explode instead of metaphorically exploding.

   But lo the mighty have fallen. The once great GCS has apperently devolved into a nearly harmless normal spider though the vermin cave spiders have really stepped up in the world.

You're forgetting the third great pillar of DF. The game needs to be made so you can be killed randomly by pretty much anything.

Exploring in the caverns? Cavein!
Getting supplies from animals? That cow just gibbed you with a lucky kick!
Working in your base? An item entity falls on you and kills you!
Feel you're too powerful to be killed? An indestructable monster appears to kill you!
Hiding in a box from the dangers of the mod? You start going insane!

Plus, plump helmets are just purple watermelons/pumpkins. Goblins ! Megabeasts ! Clowns ! 300 types of stone ! Tantrum/raeg mode ! Bogeymen !

There should be a mechanic where every so often a book appears in your inventory ordering you to do something in a specific timeframe, and if you fail a guy with a hammer appears.
