I understood the wait was more to stop the "huh, bad spawn, better suicide to get a better one" thing.

Yeah, if you watch some of the old videos you can see scores of "x died" messages from people suiciding to get a better spawn point.

Spawn campers?
They *do* give good equipment, though.  :D

I started on the latest 1.3.1 Vech map yesterday.

God damn. What a rage inducing map.
I think either Jeb or Jens streamed doing that map recently.

They had a stoic expression for a while before saying something along the lines of "This is goddam amazing"
Same dude, just nickname and IRL name. :P

Anyone else think this would make for an awesome Survival Games map after a bit of Tweeking? (Biome Changing, Chest randomizing, ect.)

The only problem is that its so huge that you would need like a hundred players to make it work, but otherwise it could work great!

All those multiplayer survival arena maps.... Do they randomize the chests each game? Because it seems that some of them don't, and that it will devolve into who knows the best routes to collect all the loot.

I don't know much about designing like that but I do have a suggestion related to zelda games, that is you generally will have rooms where you have to beat all the enemies in it. You can make a room like that where the whole floor is covered in pressure plates and the door to the next area only opens if no plates are pressed. When the player steps on one of the plates a couple dispensers around the room pop out some mobs and the only way to progress to the next room is kill them all so you can stand on the space right in front of the door where there is no pressure plate thus opening the door. Because there is a constant pressure on the plates from the enemies you won't have new ones spawning unless the player causes it and the room would continue to be a challenge as long as you have eggs in the dispensers. It could even be a room where both entrances close once inside so its a locking challenge room.

So it seems I accidentally put my canteen in my wheelbarrow and didn't notice... and then I got really thirsty... so right before going to sleep I go to take a swig from my canteen and... end up snorting a line of low-grade meth.

If you're talking dungeon design and conceptual layouts, best way to design one that I've found is using a good old-fashioned Concept Web.

Write down a list of cool elements you want in the dungeon, like specific traps, challenges, thematic places, and so on. Include things like "Entrance", "Miniboss", "Healing Shrine", or whatever in the list too. Once you have your concept list, arrange these elements in a conceptual web, with lines representing how the places or elements are connected to one another. Generally you want to make visually interesting elements that are relatively non-challenging as a Hub and rest-space which that connects individual challenge rooms, and these challenges should stand between the hub and some sort of objective or reward (a tool or switch that allows further progress, a useful utility, an interesting plot element, or something otherwise rewarding). You'll want to create barriers between hubs and challenges as well; perhaps a barrier between hubs that can be opened with a switch that follows a challenge area, or which can be bypassed with a tool you have to go get (a waterbreathing helmet to survive a water tunnel, a diamond pick for obsidian blocks, etc).

Once you have this web done, start to lay out how the rooms will actually be connected and divided. The areas could have physical walls between each, or other barriers, such as ladder-scalable cliffs, etc. Note that a high-up bridge over an older area can connect two new elements of the dungeon, and provide a new view of a visually interesting area the players visited before, without being accessible from below. The possibilities are endless!

Mod thread is over there ===> http://www.bay12forums.com/smf/index.php?topic=106040.0

They got all upset at us discussing mods in here, even though nobody was really talking about vanilla.

Change "even though" to "because" and then you've got that right.

I doubt the mod talk actively blocked out any vanilla talk, but okay
