Like many other mod authors I've decided to skip 1.2.4 and wait for 1.2.5. Upside is that the 1.2.5 update will be full of extra deliciousness.

HNNNNNG.. BLARGH!  >:(

So.. when is MC 1.2.5 going to be released?
This is why I simply don't update until all my mods are ready. Especially when the new features are stupid or not important. I mean.... yay a new chat system! I mostly play single player anyway since a lot of mods are not multiplayer ready. Can't wait for that mod API they promised.

Bah, you kids and your fancy thaumcraft. Back in my days everyone liked Mo' Creatures.

Skip 1.2.4?

*non-existent glass of water drops*

No! Seriously, I don't have the previous (1.2.3) version and even if I used one of those fancy-schmanzy launcher things, my .minecraft folder is crowded to the brim with stuff, and I don't think I can keep track.

This sucks. Here's hoping the experimental mod support is worthwhile and flexible. Oh, and hope they fix the redstone burnout glitch. Hate having to relocate the whole circuit after one torch fails.

Is there a mod out there that makes the enchantment system more reasonable? I very much dislike the way the enchantment system is in vanilla. It's so completely against what the game is built around that it's not even funny.

Game: Creativity and hard work!

Magic: Random chance and ugly bookcase closets!

That might help the grind a bit, although it does nothing to remove the random chance stuff the enchantment table has.

Maybe go through books to have a random chance to LEARN an enchantment (and be able to set boundaries on what kind of enchantment you're looking for, perhaps), but then be able to pick it at your leisure with the table?

It'd definitely get rid of the ugly bookcase closets :P

I would like being able to select what kind of enchantment an object receives instead of having three options of RNG declaring that "you suck" and gives you a bane of arthropods enchantment to your weapon.

No, seriously, I want that Silk Touch, dagnabbit!

Why do you guys wanna get rid of every single bit that makes the game more difficult?

PSh, I'd still get blown up in caves. :P
Weapons don't help if you don't hit things. And besides, enchantery still requires grinding. I'm alright with that.

RNG isn't difficult. It turns it into a grind.

Exactly. I'd grind if I'm sure I'll get that certain enchantment after a certain amount of XP is used, than get 3 enchantments I actually don't need at the time.

There are ways to make the game difficult without making it depend on an RNG. Make the enchantments require specific rare items as well as certain levels of XP, or even make the enchantment depend on what blocks you place around the enchanting table.

Some time next week, and then they'll announce minecraft 1.2.6 which corrects a typo in one of the random splashes and requires all the MCP work to be done again.
Comeon, this is still better than not getting updates for months at a time.

Also the pre-release for 1.2.4 is out.

I think the block idea would be more in-tune with the 'spirit' that Minecraft presents. RNG frustration is for pointless Roguelikes (And Battle for Wesnoth), not block crafting simulators.

Heck, throwing a dart to choose your enchantment would be better than a RNG.
