More images!
How did you get it so big and get rid of the HUD?
I suppose that could just be full-screen with F11 or alt+enter or some other standardized key-combo, but I have no idea.
I have no idea, at all, sorry. I just F11'd into fullscreen, print screen>save>upload, and posted it here. I was surprised to see the HUD gone too, wish I knew what I did. I think I may have accidentally cut it off, actually.

On my first trip down to the magma level I found at least 3 gold veins and 2 diamond veins. Just a matter of luck I guess.

The terrain generator got a little messed up with this update as well... massive floating islands and unreal overhangs everywhere.

In order to improve the universe's frame rate, we must all throw rocks into volcanoes and then do absolutely nothing, worldwide, for a week, to take pressure off pathfinding.
or maybe throw them into the large hadron collider to atom-smash them instead.
Not to mention to throw all available animals into tiny pits.

Yeah I'm having major trouble finding diamonds. I was having trouble finding gold too, but I went on some EXTREMELY long and confusing cave dives and ended up with 50 gold ore blocks. The problem was, there was no way in hell I could find my way back to the entrance. So I tunneled my way up, looks around confusedly, tried to follow the coastline back home, and ended up drowning because of lag.

But I went super deep and I never found any diamonds. Tons of iron though.

That's what I thought too, but the resolution is at exactly 1280x1024, which is the desktop resolution of my old CRT, so I figured you full-screened it.
No way to have cut it off, that being the case.
There's also the fact that the crosshair is missing...  Very mysterious.

In other news, Cartograph still works with the new Infdev update.

Holy crap. What the hell did I miss out on? It's been ages since I last played/visited.

All this still requires I get a registered account, right? Is it still 10 bucks? That aside, what can I still get with free access?

YEAH.

I just genned a world with some pretty huge floating islands right nearby the spawn. I'm setting them up as my base, with a ladder I've built up to them. I may switch this out for a waterfall.

Same map had quite significant amounts of metal and coal in a cave near the start, giving me a boost.

On the other hand, I play without sound, so if I'm working on something in the dark, I don't get any warning about creepers...

Anyway, I'm in the process of gardening these islands and bringing water up in buckets to build a pool for irrigation.

Waterfalls are no longer good as ladders because they push you around, causing you to sometimes fall out of the water column. And they are slower. This should not stop you from having a waterfall anyway.

Could someone break this down for me? It's been forever since I've played MineCraft and when I did, all you did was build shit, which was fun in its own right, but now it looks like you've got health, armor(?), and some actual goals or some such?

Is this still multiplayer and does the DF community have a server?

There will ultimately be two versions: Creative and Survival.

Creative is what you have now. It is basically build whatever you want with all the blocks available to you.

Survival will be just that, surviving in an unlimited massive map. Notch plans to add multiplayer to that as well eventually.

Ahh... no, no they weren't. I've been genning new worlds a lot over the last few updates so as to play with the new features as they were put in.
I did not save my worlds, I would delete them as soon as I was done for the moment and start with a new one every time. It it safe to say that for every update since Notch came back from his break I generated 10 different fresh worlds. None of them looked like they do now after this update. It was not until this last one with caves that the worlds I generated were filled with floating islands and gigantic overhangs.

He seriously needs to add options for how unreal or real we want our worlds to look. Surrealistic wonderscape gets old for me in about 15 mins.

Duke, forgive me if I'm wrong.. But surely Notch has said he's planned other modes.
Zombies Siege for one, or King of the Hill? Capture the flag?
He's mentioned all of these..

And if we're going to count his expansion pack like things that he's planning, the there's a lot more.
And it's all free!

Because over the last few updates he has broken, fixed, changed, broken again, and fixed once again the map generator.

I'm pretty sure it's STILL not "perfect".

For the beta release when he considers it a somewhat finished product, those two modes will be there. The other planned modes will be after Survival Multiplayer.
