i have finished the safe house inside the cavern complex, the wooden mansard, the big glass window, the outside garden, and the magma walls at the side of the stairs.
all on normal difficulty.
problems are:
the magma wall unluckily ended up drifting towards the villager's wooden village. there is already a casualty from magma.

“Do something!” she whispered, trying to keep her sight on all of them at once.
Basileus clapped his hands once. The Forgotten took a step forward, attracted by the sound.

XD

Seriously, it's a curse. I've even went and fetched one from a chest when I have a perfectly good crafting table sitting right there.

And I usually mass produce them once I get my first one.

I've gotten too used to using the Philosipher's stone as a crafting table.
I stopped doing that after throwing my 4th stone into lava by mistake.

 >:(
I'm guessing that Philosopher's Stones are difficult to produce?

If I threw a crafting table into lava by accident, I'd shrug and accept the loss of a single block of wood's worth of planks.

They are if you don't have one.
Once you get a PS you can mass produce them pretty easily, just requires your PS and the 3 mats, so glowstone dust, redstone dust and a slimeball, or coal, an ender pearl and an egg.

Well it takes 4 glowstone dust, 4 redstone and a slime ball. Not super difficult but not 'needs four wood planks' either.

Certainly enough to be annoying when you forget to remove the stone from the crafting window and close it only to hurl the stone into the lava.

and yeah once you have one you can make more at a cheaper rate, but if you only made one...

Yeah, it's a bit of a kick in the proverbials in that case.

I guess a better question is why I always seem to craft while facing magma.

On another note, what would you guys and gals recommend for in-game (any game, not just MC) recording?

Because you never seem to need to craft until you're standing beside magma.
I've noticed.

Because a proper DF player is never far away from magma. That also counts for ex-players.

I dunno'... it may be a better idea to craft while facing away from the magma, looking out for anything that may try to push you into it... >.>

I think this is it.

I mean hell, I use magma as lighting. In my wooden house. Currently. I have not a single torch in my house.

I have not a single torch in my main house either.
No magma either.
