For me, that's actually a good thing, I get a lot of surplus meat and leather quickly if there are a lot of cows.

What are your views on the "animals fleeing" thing?  It doesn't really add much, in my opinion, their pathing system isn't good for rocky or hilly terrain.  It is fun when they go zigzag and you absolutely cannot hit them with your bare hand, forcing you to use your sword.

I'm sure it's loads more entertaining on a multiplayer server, where you get to see new players flailing around blindly trying to kill whatever animal they've scared. That and occasionally watching mobs chase each other around.

Yup. It just makes them not be vegetables, and that's about it.

Is anyone else noticing the cows seem absurdly, insanely common?

It used to be at night I heard zombies and skeletons milling around, but now?

MOOOOOOOOOOO. MOOOMF. MOOOOOOOOOOO.

The haunting moos of night D.
EVEN IN THE MINES.

Ghost cows.

And the odd chicken.

I'm currently in an ocean biome island, so there are no cows. There isn't much of anything.

They don't run far enough. They run for what, 5 seconds?

yeah, i want animals to run indefinitely ... wonder if i could find that line to mod it...

also, just for the record: I like ein's writing style ... It's somewhat less restricted by puny punctuation ...

I thought that the animals kept running until they got a certain distance away from the thing attacking them. I guess I was wrong.

Having them attempting to get a certain distance away would probably be a better way to handle it.

I have a ridiculously cavernous area beneath my current castle. I swear there is more cavern down there than rock. Hopefully that'll let some more slimes spawn, though, since I need slimeballs so I can make sticky pistons. I really want to put in a portcullis system for my castle.

And I've found two of the classic dungeons so far. Got the spider room tamed, but haven't really tackled the skeleton room yet. Found it too early on. Now that I have a diamond sword and some full steel armor I might have to go back to it. No mines or chasms on this map yet, though. Although I got to play with mines in one of my other maps.

Enjoying the update, though. The smooth stone bricks are awesome, and I find creating giant mushrooms to be pretty fun. I might spawn some down in the caverns as safe houses. They'd be easily recognizable, at least.

I read tildes as "about," so every sentence I read with that on the end makes me think the person doesn't know "exactly" what they are talking about.

I've also had to break my habit of abusing the ellipsis ('...') for denoting a pause in text.  That's what a comma is for.

It's not really less restricted by punctuation because you are adding yet another punctuation item.

Skelly dungeons can be tough, but here's what I do. Take out the bottom blocks of the dungeon only. They'll come up to you and then you whack their feet until they die. Then break a block so you can get in and put torches down (or destroy the spawner).

I couldn't seem to get a straight answer elsewhere: Has snow/ice been added back in for the official 1.8 release? Some people were still talking as if they weren't in, but didn't say if they were still using pre-release or not.
As far as I know: Not yet, but soon.

Snow is not in 1.8, notch is working on the new snow biomes today though, according to twitter.

Not where I live. Where I live, it's chickens. Chickens chickens chickens, everywhere. I've been surviving off of chicken so far.

I half wonder if it's biome based. I live near a large grassland that spawns tons of chickens (annoying to hit them too amongst piles of tall grass), and a sprinkling of pig. No sheep or cows. To find sheep I have to go to the neighboring mountain biome, or one of the neighboring forests.
