It's most likely a TMI crash. vanilla 1.8 creative works for me.

Yeah, haven't heard of a workbench fix but I wasn't the one that found the furnace fix to begin with sooo.

Ok, well, survival on peaceful with toomanyitems is not so different from creative, I guess. If I want to fly around, I can join creative and not trigger the crash if I don't intend on building anything...

 I understand some issues with generated stuff like mine supports in mid air being an issue, but all the craziness is great. All the intersections and interactions are welcome.

It's pretty crazy when you have half a mine floating in a ravine.

Guys what happened
I spawned on an isolated island, swam to an abandoned mineshaft below, saw some torches, and guess what I found?
Redstone, an iron pick, coal, iron ingots, and melon seeds, on the floor, then I heard ambience sounds.
I'm scared.

I think it's a sign. The game is telling you to play as a dwarf, only go up to the surface when you ABSOLUTELY NEED wood.

Gotta say, I wasn't so impressed with the improved combat right up until I just sprint jumped from higher ground to leap over a creeper hanging out behind a fence on my patio, whirled around, with the momentum carrying me a bit farther away from the creeper and then fought him. It's at least added a bit of strategy for positioning.

Although blocking doesn't seem to be doing much of anything.

Hah supposedly, ender pearls are actually quite useful...

The Ender Pearl is sometimes dropped by Endermen upon death.

The Ender Pearl can be used to make Endermen teleport away from you when right-clicking on them while holding the Ender Pearl in any game mode. Endermen also become passive unless you attack them first.

Sorry if this has already been discussed, but how are the new animal interactions?  Do they run away properly?  I wish there were more realistic animal behavior, that way you could have an actual ecosystem.

Perhaps a bit out of the scope of this game. Already the idea of non-respawning animals we have to capture and breed seems drastic, we would need to take this one small step at a time.
